I get what you mean about orange looking great! I’ve always been a fan of neon green or white myself, just because they stand out a lot during tricks. I find that bright colors, like orange, help with visibility too, but it really comes down to what you like best. I think whatever makes you feel good while you’re throwing is the way to go!
i mostly used pink colors, but my favorite is the pastel yellow or pastel green from hkmt equipment
this
I don’t know about this. Usually people change string to match the yoyo for aesthetic reasons but you’re talking about functionally and I’m just not sure that the yoyo color matters to string choice for any functional reasons. imo fluorescent yellow is just the easiest to see and best color. If the floor was fluorescent yellow, then I could see picking a color that would contrast that more.
I just reread the original question and they talk about:
So it seems like a question about the most used color in the whole YoYo scene.
On the otherhand, they then follow with:
So it is about looks and personal preference?
I originally read it as it’s concerning looks and choice and was just confused, that everyone talked about how the string will be better seen to a crowd watching you or for a performance.
But for me he did not ask that. To me he talks about color-combination and aesthetics.
Long way to say: I don’t think it’s about functionality.
That said: Why would neon-pink or orange not show proper, to you throwing and a crowd watching, in contrast to a natural pallet or on a neutral stage/room.
Maybe you only play downtown Tokio and have to compete with neon signs, but I playing mostly in my office and can easy choose any neon color matching my YoYo.
I know I overdid this, but I think, I am not stupid on this. I don’t get, why functionality should resolve to yellow or white.
Okay maybe I misunderstood your question. Imo fluorescent yellow is just always the easiest to see and that’s why I like it best with any yoyo.
My favorite colers gotta be neon orange it just kinda pops in my opinion throwing i usually go with a DARK black color because where I usually throw I have a white background so black is the easiest to see.
It usually depends on the throw for me
I have lavender on my cotton candy hummingbird as that’s what color it turns when it spins. On my unholy quail I have a deep red. Then on a lime colored Grail I have solar flare orange/yellow.
I love all the colors too much to have a sole favorite and I’d rather accent or match the throw.
I tend to gravitate towards neon orange but more than a single color, my favorite are mixes of colors. Like psycho sunburn alphaline.
Cotton color string
I grew up with white strings and it’s just stuck with me. I buy bulk yoyoexpert poly, it’s dirt cheap, and allows me to have a fresh string on the regular.
I quite like the common yellow/greenish-yellow colour that you can get most strings in. I do also really enjoy how some of the fancier mixed-colour options look, but the ones I’ve used generally just look like a solid-coloured string once in motion.
This time of year I have to go with Zipline “Nice List” it’s red and white striped like a candy cane!
Yeah highlighter is there go to im also under the belief that dyes have different weights and feels for a lack of better description, but i love the way pinks play hate reds light bkue yes darl.blue or greem nah purple is alright though. Have you tried zipline strings
Dyes weigh and play differently then their are all the different string formulas i strictly choose my string based on the function im gping for and pf course the throw and string gotta match the shoes
Dude, 100%. You do you.
And of course in any boimechanical act/sport, like YoYo, a lot comes down to feel and mentality. If you feel that the color-deyes makes the string heavier, then this will be true to you no matter what.
But the same thing goes for look too. A Yo you think looks great and maybe also more “pro”, may lead you play more consentrated or just better, therefore fullfilling the prophesy you set-up yourself.
As the head-noob of the noob-union-haedquarters, I can not judge that in YoYo, but I am also in competitive shooting sports for the last 15 yaers and I can see that there too. Sporting guns are always made to look cleancut and “fast”. They don’t need to look like that, but they looking like that, is a plus to the athlete, who competes with them.
And the same thing goes for: Racecars, GP-Bikes, bicycles, skies, footballs, … idk, Darts?
Maybe I go into that a little hard and obsessive, but to me it’s fun to think of these underlaying samll things, how they influence a person and what comes out of it. Humans are way less rational than we like to think we are.
I don’t know if it’s weight but dying is a chemical process and different colored string of the same brand and thickness do play slightly different fwiw
Variations of purple or steel blue
I have no experience with that. I take yours and Chrises’ @Gurdy word on it.
But I have to say from my vantage-point as a graphic designer and the info I have of such processes, I would assume that the only thing that would be changeing in dyeing the different colored strings would be the pigment. And the wheight difference per string has to be in micrograms, if at all. But maybe some are stiffer?
And looking at the neaon pink stringed YoYo right next to me, that color is probably some A-level toxic crap (Neon color pigments are often made with heavy metals and metallic oxides, as far as I know).
The only thing I could think of right now, would be the differnce betrween a completly white string (maybe just bleached fibres) and colord string (bleached and dyed) to make any mecanical difference.
But do you have some examples that come to mind, where this became obvious to you? @GTDropKnot @Gurdy
I mean, it’s a hell of a rad phenomenan.
Yeah kitty basic kitty white vs pink are noticeably different in terms of how they feel and play and the durability. This was a pretty interesting topic abt it.
