I just got the T5 old version. Although it has a bit of vibe compared to the new version, it plays much better in my opinion due to it being slightly lighter. Of course, you need to change out the pads and put in recessed silicone instead, otherwise it will be very grabby.
Old vs New:
Old:
-Sandblasted
-Slightly lower-walled
-Narrower gap (4.00 mm), but with a more pronounced response damper
-Due to the reason above, stock response can be very grabby. Changing it to a deeply recessed silicone makes it play like a dream.
-Tend to have some vibe, but still within comfortable tolerance
-Slightly lighter
-Slightly wider
New:
-Shiny anodization
-Slightly larger response area
-Wider gap
-Because of this, you can just use the stock response pads if it is applied evenly. If not, replace with flush silicone.
-Dead-smooth
-Heavier, due to thicker rims
-ever-so-slightly narrower

Oh, by the way, the 2012 version has an amazing purple color. The photo doesn’t do it justice. The color has much more depth in person. Just think purple Messiah. Striking.
