I know there are better options than these 2, but strictly of these 2, which do you think is better for beginners, in terms of build quality and how they will last until they take the next step forward?

Spinstar gets my vote! I just bought six of them to give away to kids! Definitely has more power than the 201 and is great for modern responsive/fixie style of play.

spinstar is less complicated and kinda better
I used the older version of the spin star, to teach hundreds of students to yoyo. I really liked it!
I also used the fast 201. It has a very aggressive star burst that eats strings like crazy and can cause it to snag unpredictably. Iād recommend the spin star.
