Spinstar 5A, smart or stupid?

Im starting to dabble in 5A, and am trying to pick which yoyos are worth beating up for it.

I have a freehand pro in trying to mod to run for unresponsive 5a, but dont have a responsice throw to try 5a with picked out yet.

Thinking of throwing the dice on my spinstar to see if it works, but i suck at 5A so cant tell if i just suck still or if its a stupid idea lol.

Truthfully i have a freehand one too, but its too pretty i dont wanna 5a with it yet :rofl:.

Just get like an n12 sharks honor or something for cheap. Plastic 5a is not the move imo

Two different yo-yos of similar size and weight should work

Get some FHZs. And pads. Then get ready for two weeks of painful knuckles and hands. I learned in the kitchen myself great for when you need ice.

If you’re talking about a responsive counterweight setup, like 0.5A then a Spinstar will do really well for it’s price range. $6 at my local supermarket, I’d be fine throwing it outside.

I just really dislike the sound and feel of the response and axle system. Buy a few and start modding one straight away

I really want to love the Spinstar, but I find the gap too tiny at the axle. It’s excessively responsive.

If you’re playing responsive freehand I strictly prefer the Butterfly XT for the price. If you’re planning to play unresponsive freehand then I think there are better options.

Over here Butterflys aren’t on the cheap shelves as much as they used to be, but if you can get them cheap then they’ll do.

I ordered the sharks honour that GT mentioned but got a K1 instead :disappointed:

@SmashYoyos
I have a red and blue pair of very excellent N12 Shark Honor that I do nothing with. I am likely to just let you have them. If that is something that might interest you.

Oddly enough, I have found that a YYF Whip with a counterweight does pretty well for dabbling in 5A. You can just throw on a different bearing if you want to do responsive or unresponsive, it is quite cheap, not heavy when it comes to it hitting you (or other things), and is VERY durable.

The whip is a workhorse of a yoyo. It can off string in a pinch, it can 5a, only things it’s not great for are 2 and 3a

off topic i had a dream ab this post, if my dream is anything to go by you should be ok
