Start with a FH1p, classic A bearing that comes responsive, but can be easily be set up unresponsive.

I definitely think you should start with the regular plastic FH1, it’s certainly a wonderful throw! (Still sad that mine broke)

Also, the Freehand MG is my favorite yo-yo, I have to mention it— if you ever get a good deal on one, you won’t regret getting it! (especially if you like high-wall organics)

Definitely agree with the plastic fh1, pick a color and beat it up👊

Another vote for the Freehand One plastic, its a great throw. I haven’t done a lot of 5A but the weight feels substantial enough with the plastic version, could be a bit on the narrow side for catches if you’re starting out with it for freehand play.

If I lost all my yoyos in a tragic accident then the FhOne would be the first one I buy. Lots of cool colours available too.

Can +1 these as well, I have around x12 of the various Freehand models if you count the metals as well, and the simple plastic Freehand One with the small “A” bearing is still one of my favorite go-to’s of them.

Grab a Freehand PC while they’re still around. They went on sale last black Friday iirc

The plastic FH1 is the best option to dip your toe in but I don’t see any love here for the aluminum FH1. It’s a grossly underrated yo-yo that almost never comes up in conversations about favorite organics. Absolutely one of my favorites in my collection.

Maybe someone here can answer this question for me. I cleaned my bearing on the new FH1 and it still seems to snag on me. Do you need to purchase the new upgrade kit to widen the gap to truly make it unresponsive?

The kit is the easiest

Just a Concave or a Center Trac will also work as well

Some people also razor blade off the that lip around the response if you want a flat bearing for true old school feel

Normal thickness or Slim string is also helpful

Remove one of the response pads and use the thinnest string you can get.

The kits widen the gap a bit but I still find that I need to remove a pad and use thin string even with the gap widened.

You could also put shims behind the stock spacers to widen the gap

I think I need another FH1…

what’s all the scribing around the edge? neat

Just some custom engravings that Chris Makita likes to do with his Freehand 1 Plastics

Awesome

Sorry I didn’t mean to hijack this thread with the response questions. Turns out the center trac bearing + removing a response pad did the trick! I’m also using some fat string so I’m sure it will play even better with some thinner string.

With that being said, having started yo-yoing in the Freehand Zero era, modding these things to be unresponsive was what it was all about. I would’ve loved to see the FH1 come unresponsive out of the package, but I see the charm of a stock FH1 experience.

So here’s my unpopular opinion, if unresponsive is your style, I actually love the Freehand Nextgen. It comes with both a standard and konkave bearing and it’s the most affordable out of all the freehands. It’s a bit “floatier” than the FH1 but I really like it, especially for 5A.

This one does the LARGE BEARING from Worlds, this would have been a modders dream, can’t believe they still have several in stock
