Hi all, still very new to these forums & what’s available today. I’ve done a lot of shopping & reading to pick out a new higher-end throw. Being a sucky intermediate, I’m not at the point yet where ‘floaty’ or ‘slow on the string’ matters…I just want to know what a well-designed long-spinning stable model feels like, and since I can’t fingerspin yet, a dimple would be nice to learn on.
Between these 3, what say you? Or any others in the ball park:

My first “serious” throw was the iYoYo Iceberg. Similar to the SHFX but it has more power given how it’s built. Spin time on the Iceberg is still hard to beat. It has a finger dimple; it’s not the most forgiving but it can do finger spins very well. Before that, I was learning on the Shooting Star, which imo has a more forgiving finger spin dimple, so it was easier to learn on that first. IMO the dimple on the Speedaholic XX is even better, and is overall a bit more performant than the Shooting Star.
Anyway, love the Iceberg so much I got several colorways lol. But there’s lots of good throws out there, so you probably can’t go wrong just picking something you think looks cool.
W1LD Wilderness 7075 will blow all 3 of those out of the water and it’s only 70$.
MK1 Dynames is also an incredible fun and very good yoyo
Honestly just about anything from MK1/W1LD is well worth the money.
I also give a major #1 to the person above with the Iceberg. I absolutely love mine and you can’t beat it for the price. Especially if you want to learn finger spins
if you’re willing to forgo the dimple i think you should get a Forma from Edition. it’s only available in blasted clear atm but it’s on sale for $45 and it’s gonna be hard to beat at that price
»Sucky intermediate« sounds like a fitting category for the level I’m at. I like using the iYoyo Intensity for learning new tricks as I feel it’s powerful yet forgiving enough so that I can focus on getting the steps of a trick down without having to worry too much about perfectly aligning the yoyo on the string so it doesn’t tilt or runs out of spin. I polish those things later after I’ve figured out how everything has to move to make the trick work.
It also has fingerspin dimples. I haven’t put any effort into learning fingerspins yet so I can’t give any feedback on its capabilities in that area.
Something that is super stable often times is something rim weighted. SHFX is as good as it gets sibce it’s a hybrid (Hybrids I feel just spin so long) and it has a fingerspin hub. It does everything you’d want as a yoyo, but that’s why I feel it isn’t that great in the end for some folk.
When you do everything next to perfect there isn’t much personality. For you this will be an amazing yoyo. I tend to stick to less traditional stuff. If you ever come across a Retic Death Adder V2 I’d recommend one!! But for what you’d need is something like a speeds. SHXX is as good as plastics get for tricks, and the hybrid just feels so nice honestly. I learnt fingerspins on the SHXX. It is a big old cheater for teaching, once you learn with it you’ll find yourself practicing on others without a hub! It’s a great yoyo for teaching and practicing what you’d want
