Duncan YoYos reccomendation

I have all the yo-yos listed above and I’ll mirror stay away from the bumblebee and the al imperial I’ve tuned them how I like them and they are valued in my collection but they are in no way something I would hand someone starting off.

Also many times over a choice of Yoyo champions. Barracuda is a must have, also Freehand One.

@Vai113, you’ve already got one of the best responsive/looping yoyos on the market in that Hornet. Just go crazy with that for a while, maybe make some adjustments like removing a washer, get some nice Arata strings, and call it a day.

Many thanks and appreciation to everyone that responded I deeply am thankful for this wonderful community ;

I ended up ordering a freehand 1 and along with my hornet will keep me busy a while !

I’m tempted to also get that aluminum butterfly by Duncan but it’s similar to the FH1 I’ll stick with that ;

I’m tempted to just buy every Duncan Yoyo cause I like to collect things as well…

You guys rock!

On a fside note I want to get a Duncan imperial AL but they are sold out anyone else know where to get one ? I was gonna get the original imperial so why not the nice one?

If I understand the trick category I would be shooting for 0a and 1a

Nice pick! FH1 has stayed in production over the decades for a reason! It’s a super fun and really great yoyo! Have fun!

I think you made a great choice. You can cover a tremendous amount of ground with the Hornet and FH1 you have. A person “could” make it with just those 2. But, of course, that’s crazy talk.

I’ll send you a link for the al imperial we try not to promote non yye stores on the forum.

Nice man the FH1 is gonna be a good start and a yo-yo you’ll end up keeping forever. If and when you’re ready to move on up to more advanced stuff, pm me. I have a bunch of Duncan’s I will sell to you for dirt cheap. Like, multiple metals and stuff for the price of one of them cheap

That Yoshicuda is the only yo-yo yet that still tugs at my want strings. I just can’t do that price tag. One day perhaps I’ll find one on BST for a nice deal. :roll_eyes:

You can usually find yoshicuda on sale a few places. I got mine for 35 on yoyo day! I see them on the BSTs frequently for 50 or less

Same yoyo day was an awesome price for the yoshicuda. Haven’t decided even now if I love it but for what I paid it’s a steal.

I have the Barracuda x and I really like that one. I’ve heard they are different though. My only taste of Bi-metal is Bumblebee and Mini Star 2. I freakin love that Mini Star 2. It has pushed my unresponsive play in a dramatic way. So I wondered about the Yoshi. But the truth is that I’m really really loving the smaller throws. The Snack and Mini Star and Mini Freehand. I find myself reaching for one of these 80% of the time over the full size guys. So that fact plus the price holds me back.

I think the Haymaker OG might be a better Duncan bi-metal for someone who genuinely prefers small yo-yos.

I’ll look into that. Thanks. I think I’d rather have a better throw than to have nostalgia. Still not sure I’ll do it though. I’m sure there are those who will say I’m crazy, but I am really satisfied with where my collection is. The biggest reason that I built it was to find what I liked. And I feel like I have that. Though there’s certainly not “one“ yo-yo to rule them all.

I’ve tried almost all of the Duncan bi-metals, and owned a good amount of them.

The Haymaker OG is a solid choice for something smaller. The Ministar feels mini, the Haymaker OG sits closer to something in the size frame of a Bape, Parlay, or Mini FH1.

The Yoshicuda X doesn’t really feel small to me, it’s leaning closer to a standard size diameter (54-56) in play, where the Haymaker OG feels closer to something in the 50-52mm range even though it’s listed at 53.

Though, if you want the best 50mm~ bi-metal, David’s Dreamland is probably the most underrated small diameter bimetal to exist. It’s 50mm and plays like a mini GTR/Yoshicuda X. If I had to sell my entire collection and only keep 5-10 yoyos, the dreamland would be one I kept.

You sold me on the dreamland but it’s all sold out. :sob:

Oh yeah. I looked at that too. It’s nice!!

Was a small release by a forum member last year. You could probably find one on the BST if you ask around.

The next closest thing that I’ve tried would be the Mowl Obsession+ but I would compare that more closer to the Haymaker OG both in terms of how it plays, and the size. Dreamland is a standout because there’s no yoyo like it on the market. Where as if you asked me for a yoyo similar to a Shade, Hinemosu, or GTR, I could list off 3 really quick for each model - it’s literally just the Dreamland, and only the Dreamland in it’s own little world of awesome.

If someone wanted something actually mini the 66% haymaker exists, but I’ve never gotten to try one.
