I have participated in two drops. The Mk1 Exia (which I got) and the Duncan Freehand Aluminum that had Steve Brown and 5ayoyo stuff on it (which I missed because I hit refresh on accidentāI had it in my cart too, which really stunk.) For me, if the drop is not advertised at least a week beforehand, I will not buy it because I do not impulse buy.
Iām not sure what qualifies as a ādropā here, and this certainly wasnāt highly contested. YYE did a midnight release of the OD Sugar Glider last May. My five year old knew how much I wanted one, and she loved the teal color. So, we agreed I would get one, set an alarm to order it, and the next morning she was excited I got it. (When it came she hid it until Fatherās Day.) While I donāt know that they sold out right away, a few days later they were out of the teal. It ended up being a fun, memorable endeavor, and a throw special to me.
I have slowed buying down a lot, and, I tend to take the approach of waiting until a day or so after the release to try to buy. It helps keep my sanity not being in the game of who is faster at checking out, and, it is easy to justify not jumping on the hype train, and feeling good that I didnāt keep someone who really wanted a yoyo from getting a yoyo that I sort of wanted.
The YYN Peak drops were insane. I had a system that worked really well. Iād open a store page and put something in my cart, a couple Dif pads or something. Iād then go to the checkout page and do everything but the final submit. Then Iād open a new page and wait for the drop. Iād put the yoyo(s) in my cart and switch back to the other checkout page and hit submit. Even though the yoyo(s) werenāt showing on that page they were in my virtual cart. Iād have the purchase completed a couple seconds after the drop.
Theyāre still available unless you wanted a specific color (green+gold or clear+rainbow).
More on topic, I picked up a DK from a drop on A-RTās site once. I purchased it by showing up at the perfect time and already being logged in to paypal.
