it’s really liberating not caring that they do stare, but that they also feel the joy i do whenever i shake a yoyo around outside. when i went yo my daugthers school picnic the other day and hung out, all the kids kept coming around me asking all kinds of questions and saying “Hey that’s the yoyo man that’s Clementines dad!”
my heart melted when the kids kept coming over and seeing my daughters smile was the most precious thing to me. i want to do that for more people and bigger crowds when i get better at yoyo one day. my town has nothing so idk about the future of yoyoing in wilmington but i might be able to make it work when things align properly for us.
i still struggle with the social anxiety part of throwing outside in public, i can only ever muster the gut for it when im in a familiar space
so lovely to see and hear others experiences with that
hmu, i just let out my inner hyuck and the goofy just comes out to play lol
I throw at music festivals and concerts. It’s a great conversation starter for sure. It seems to make you approachable.
I’ve only meet one or two other yoyo guys out in the wild.

was on my morning walk today and a dude yelled out of his truck YO NICE YOYO MAN I YOYO TOO THATS AWESOME:D so they’re out there!
I was throwing at the DMV yesterday…may as well have some fun in a building where everyone else seems to hate the universe including the employees. (Nobody cared, most importantly, nobody stopped me from throwing and having some form of enjoyment)
As the coordinator of dmv throwers I often get asked if our club is dedicated to yo-yoing at DMVs so for a moment you where an honorary member ![]()
Was at work earlier (Theme park) and saw a guest walking around with one of those souvenir yoyos we sell (with the hilariously wide gap). Saw a couple basic gravity pulls, followed by a breakaway. Was itching to catch up with the guest but was in the middle of running audio for an event, so yoyo-related thoughts had to be held back. But hey, it was Fixed Axle Friday, they got the memo (no idea if they actually threw but can assume so when I saw a breakaway being done).
So in my 9 years of unresponsive play I have never seen anyone throw in person. Tons of watching others videos but I never met anyone who can throw a yoyo. Until, 3 weeks ago at our little club of myself and a handful of beginner children at a local toy store. A local showed up by the name of Johnny Bus, an ambassador for another yoyo retailer to remain unnamed and started busting out a ton of 5a tricks I’ve only seen on YouTube. Now, I’m an old guy and I can throw a yoyo but I am no where near a lot of you that can bust out super cool technical combos all day long, I just have fun doing what I can do and I have thrown my yoyo all over town. I usually have one in my pocket. I have learned some pretty cool stuff in the couple hours I have played with him so far. I’m hoping he is going to continue coming to our club meets so I can watch and learn more. Btw he is probably like 45 years younger than I.
occasionally i go offshore to work on rigs and boats, and once i was throwing around my yoyofriends overclock during the odd hours on shift. one of my colleagues walked in for shift change and was amused by it, i let him throw it around and tried teaching him how to bind. well i left it on my desk to go to bed and by the time i got up the next morning he was able to bind and catch a trapeze mount lol. when we finished the job, i told him to keep it and to practice. he’s since been practicing here and there and i’ve resupplied him with some new string, so its nice to be the one to introduce someone to yoyos and for them to take an honest interest in them!
How is the overclock? How does it compare to others?
it’s great, i’d say it may be my favorite inner ring competition style yoyo. it does not lack power like how i thought the vulture did, and it maneuvers quickly with ease. the dia/width is also in my personal sweet spot, and its very comfortable in the hand. i think it’s super super underrated, i gave one of mine away but it’s because i have multiples
