randomly met kieran cooper cuz he saw me yoyoing while i was working
I do this currently with my classes. During work time, kids will ask me âwhat your hardest/favorite trick?â and I will tell them âhey do ____ more problems and Iâll show you.â Itâs pretty fun.
I have to report about a positive interaction that I have had recently.
I was leaving work a little later that I had planned and was yo-yoing whilst walking through my office building, when a work college that I donât know that well was walking to opposite direction with his grand daughter tagging along (aprox. under 3yo).
So this provided me with an audience to display some skills. My college recognised it was a yo-yo and called out âCan you walk the Dog?â so i did the trick.
He proceeded to call out tricks that he knew, so I obliged with the trick. ârock the cradleâ, â round the worldâ that I did the tape measure style trick, as being inside I was concerned about the safety in the little girl watching the performance closely.
I continued walking out of the building, knowing that this may be the first time the young child has ever seen a yo-yo.
Job Done!
Does anyone remember the first time that they saw there first yo-yo?
Great stories guys!
I have one from this week.
Took both of my kids to the dentist. And as always when I am waiting for something, I pick up my responsive yoyo and start playing. (It is much more âoutdoorâ friendly as unresponsive one, because I have one free hand for handling the problems). Younger doughter was inside the office and the older one was pretending that she doesnât know me, as always when I pull my yoyo out.
I was having fun, while some other parent walks in with his son. I said hello and continued with my play, nothing fancy, just throwing few breakaways, stop&goâs, etc. when I noticed that the kid was mesmerized with this toy, that I bet he saw for the first time in his life. I uped a game a bit, made some Double or Nothing into Trapeze, DNA, etc. and his mouth opened even wider.
Then my kid was done, I collected their jackets and bags, I packed my yoyo, thanked the nurse and when we were leaving I heard that little kids mom said to him; âAlright, alright Iâll buy you one and it is called a yoyo!â
It really made my day, that in this digital era a simple rotating discs can make that kind of an impact. Yoyo is still mighty ss ever!
Have a great day or night guys and take care!
Was just yo-yoing in an extremely packed airport terminal and literally no one noticed or cared lol
Yep done that many times. Itâs amazing how little folks look up from their phones
I got some âdeath glareâ from some snooty lady at McDonalds earlier when waiting for my foodâŚwas doing some kickflips with my Deepest State when she just stared. I returned the favor while continuing to throw, was not going to stop just because she might disapprove. Already not in the best of moods with life and work stuff going on currentlyâŚso let a guy just throw and unwindâŚglare at those teenagers on speaker phone in public instead.
Had a fun encounter today at the theme park - I was walking with my friend to grab lunch and I was doing some sleepers with my Handquake. Guy comes up and asks âhey, you yoyo?â At first I was caught off guard but turned over and clarified what he was asking. Turned out he also threw. Was not too familiar with responsive stuff but showed him a few responsive tricks including the DNA with a regen. Sadly he did not have a yoyo with him but itâs always a fun surprise to run into another thrower in the world of technology-obsessed folks.
I yoyo during my 4 year olds ballet classes. I was nervous at first but Iâve just given into it at this point. People can think whatever they want. Iâm having fun! Iâm also terrible, so it mostly looks like me spamming a bunch of binds.
no lost to the fog of time
met steve browns long time best friend while i was yoyoing outside my job
maybe we should all plan to go out one day this summer and throw in public for half an hour???
iâd be happy to go do so in the local park in cheltenham
I dub thee: âthrow-in-public-Thursdayâ
or TIPT for short
Yesterday we went to the mall and I yoyo everywhere. Toward the end we met a family that was interested and gave away a few yo-yos. Was fun times would have showed them more but my kids where absolutely done and ready to go home after marching them around the mall for 4 hours
got a trick request in the mall friday, some kids in the food court said âshow me a trick.â threw a dna variation i call flopnado ( gyroscopic flop into a finger spin and then lacerate into a tornado bind, aka DNA). several jaws hit the floor. I said âhowâs that?!â and i walked away immediately cuz I landed it and wasnât gonna risk missing an encore attempt, lol.
Local legends start this way. I feel bad for every yoyoer who walks that mall after you.
Its so funny now that I think of it but when I was in middle school I used to hang out with a bunch of older dudes at the school and they all had some expensive throws and some nice tricks . I could barely bind mine at the time and remember giving it up for a while. 10 years later now that Im really back into it I think of that sometimes and havent seen anyone yoyo in Public ever againâ![]()

So yesterday I was throwing around while waiting for my food at the cafeteria. Dude walks up and asks what brand of yoyo I was playing with (Shooting Star if anyone gives a snot). Apparently he has a good collection of YYF including a bunch of pre-release protos, because he met the owner of YYF on his mission (you gotta admit, thatâs kinda cool). Today I handed him my duplicate pFulvia in hopes that itâll make him want to throw down again as he hasnât for a little while. Never thought Iâd meet another yoyo guy at college!
I used to be afraid. The stares no longer matter, because I know theyâre now all smiling with me.
I have gained renewed confidence. Thank you yoyo community.
As someone who has struggled with social anxiety before, what an amazing feeling to be free. Glad you could break out of the shell a bit! Yoyoing in public can start some really fun conversations with people.
