I think it makes sense for yoyo shirts to be dark colored even outside of just competition. When posting clips on social media, if somebody posts clips wearing your shirt that’s basically free advertising.
Plenty of companies offer shirts that aren’t just black though, especially ones more focused on design. I think most yoyo companies just really don’t have much interest in apparel is more of what you’re noticing, because printed tee shirts in general aren’t exactly at the peak of fashion to begin with.
But Grant… it would be soooo easy to Step it up a notch to accommodate people.
Simple really.
‘Let’s say you get requests from 24 people. Ok….
And in that group of 24, you of course want every single one of them to get that shirt that will make their day.
So, you offer the T-shirt in 6 different colors: black, navy, white, pink, yellow and coffee.
So of course you need to provide for their possible color choices, and size choices, so you provide the size options. 1. Small. 2. Medium. 3 large. 4 extra large. 5 extra large. 6 XX large. 7 XXX large. 8 XXXX large and of course, 9 …..5X.
So, if you just make All 9 sizes available in 6 different colors for 24 people to choose from, you will need 1,296 shirts.
9 sizes times 6 colors times 24 people.
On second thought, just do the pre-order thing in one color and specific sizes..
This has been an interesting topic but you’re all missing the real point. Yo-yo shirts don’t need more color options, they need buttons and collars just like real people shirts.
Honestly I don’t want a polo or button down with a big brand logo on it at all. A neat design with the brand logo in tiny print or on the sleeve sure but not the main print.
If we go polo what’s really missing is pattern polos.
Also there aren’t enough pink and pastel color yoyo clothes
funny story…my buddy brought his metal drifter with him to the bar a few months ago when he and his wife went out for the night. he texted me around midnight that his wife was getting ticked off cuz all these young women were all over him once he started throwing. perhaps there’s an inverse effect when age is factored in (and booze) science yo
women (or men) are (often) attracted to people who have the confidence and creativity to yoyo in public
along with kindness, humility etc
yoyo might draw you some attention cos its flashy, but it wont make you cool or nice, you gotta do that yourself
…
regarding shirts > yeah the economics is pretty straightforward, black is the most popular color, and yoyo shirts are sold in low numbers.
its no wonder they are black most of the time
if you want to rock yoyo swag thats not black, I suggest diy-ing it with fabric paint or ask your favorite comapny to sell patches or badges,
still it wont make financial sense for many so dont get disheartened if they dont oblige
Dude, I don’t wear T-Shirts. My entire wardrobe casual or dressy is button up shirts. I do a lot of these style of shirts often called “shop shirts” or “mechanics shirts.” The problem is they are more expensive and yoyo companies don’t do them any more.
Throw-Yo tossed a “bowling shirt” style on their website but it has no pockets, is entirely polyester, and is over twice the price of their polos. I get it - they are more expensive but man…
I’d love to have an easy way to get permission to use company logos and make my own work shirts. I just don’t want to buck the system and make folks mad by using their logos.
I actually have the option for a Columbia button down shirt that has double-breasted pockets, but it’s WAY more expensive than the Bowler Shirt to produce…
I wish I could do the shirts in-house, or custom order items to keep in stock, but I’m just too small of an outfit to do anything other than POD for apparel and such.
Awkward… anyways don’t pay any attention to my ravings, I gave up on hopes of being a fashion influencer when I realized I have basically dressed the same since I was in the 10th grade.
I wear a lot of those Columbia shirts. I also understand the small business constraints very well. Please don’t feel my post was an attack - it certainly wasn’t intended that way. It sucks making custom apparel costs so much.
I wear my WHITE Duncan t-shirt so everyone knows I’m the coolest guy around! But really, I do intentional “dress down” often to show that I’m not taking life too seriously in a sea of other suburban dads wearing polos, fancy button ups, comparing professional prowess/material possessions/accomplishments, and scrambling keeping up with the Jones’ Sigh
If you guys are looking for cool, less cliche yoyo apparel - see if you can find one of the Atmos Projects hoodies that they released a while back. It’s legitimately the comfiest hoodie I’ve ever owned, super-soft and thick, and a good way to rep the yoyo community.
