These kind of novelty yo-yo’s make it harder and harder to see YoyoFactory as a serious brand anymore. The only value I see for something like this is an impulse buy that will soon be relegated to a junk drawer after telling everyone you know “I got blue-balls shopping at Walmart”:
I stand by my “No-Yo Factory” declaration.
Ya, YYF pretty much lost my interest 3 years ago.
Saw a screenshot on their IG, apparently it was their best selling item when it released. I think they hit a different market than a lot of normal yoyoers or something.
I would have a lot more respect for them if they took a serious crack at expanding the player base and making decent yo-yos available with other cross generation toys such as Lego, board games, puzzles etc. I have never seen a YYF available at any corporate retailer aside from the Hobby Lobby Whip. Instead of making novelty velvet blue-balls, they should push to expand the hobby. It clicks with so many people around me when they ask me about it and I explain how it helps keep me off my phone and social media scrolling, market off that.
Idk, I’m not in the shoes of the people who call the shots there, I have heard it’s not easy to “just stock” something at Walmart or target… but I feel like there is just something missing from YoYoFactory’s whole… thing. Clearly what they have going works for them, so idk, growth isn’t everything I guess.
low effort dt capsule ripoff..
sorry not sorry
@DocPop is doing some interesting play with the Blue Balls
My first thought
You could give this man a ham sandwich tied to a string and he could find 30 seconds of tricks with it.
On the subject at large. Yeah. Duh. They lost me when they made the super wide and responded to my question of “what purpose does this serve” with “it’s wider”. Like yeah. That paired with Ben’s seemingly monthly mental breakdowns has led me to spend my dollars elsewhere.
But if anyone has a northstar and protostar to send my way.
Normally I would be all over something absurd like this but I just can’t with yyf at this point…
That was also what I thought. You know; why make a great yo-yo when you can do junk like this and sell 10,000 of them at places like Amazon, Target and Walmart? Too many novelties and not enough substance.
Yoyofactory stopped being serious imo a long time ago.
I am not a yyf fan but this is an odd thread. They make multiple world contest winner type throws. And this one falls into the same bucket as that dumpster fire throw raincityskills made. Novelty. I dont remember seeing a thread about that one asking what purpose does it serve.
Rcs that was their thing. But I am not hating on the idea I like silly YoYo’s I however don’t love his yyf has acted the last few years and I’ll leave it at that
YYF also seems to produce yo-yos that look pretty good on paper (to me anyway):
The Miracle and Moz lines look pretty serious to me. I don’t see anything obviously wrong with recent release like the Brillo, Starlight or Horizon.
They have a huge back catalog of respectable models that are still in production and relevant.
They continue to have a large roster of popular competitors and ambassadors.
They do oddball stuff and seem willing to throw a lot at the wall in general, some of which languishes.
I think what many are noticing is that YYF seems to rely more and more on the types of yo-yo’s that beginners and the merely curious buy at toy stores and then throw away. Many of us old timers remember a different YYF.
Yes, YYF does make some great throws like the IQ and (…and I am told - the Miracle). But there are few of these high-end yo-yo’s. Also, these models seem to come and go with regularity (R2). It is hard to invest in a Miracle at $160 only to see it replaced with a ‘new’ version next month.
Another beef is that high end stuff all gets released in Japan weeks before they come to the States. Why? It seems that they ‘sell more yo-yo’s in Japan’, and that the high end stuff goes there first. This is not what I would expect from a large, worldwide company.
Like what are we? Cold meat?
Ah valid points mate. Didnt know about the japan thing and yeah with the influx of new throwers I would agree that yyf is a beginner friendly brand with a clear path to competitive yoyos.
I wonder if they have determined that marketing/selling direct is just a better business model for them outside of Japan.
Imma jump in this before it gets locked and say that personally I just think their quality sucks. They like Yozean level from a finishing quality perspective, which is a problem because they’re much more expensive.
I got some news for you guys. And I also have some news for the mods. And I also have some news and a request for Andre. I’ll make the request here and then I will text him to let him know in case he’s not on top of this thread because he’s such a busy guy sometimes he’s just not paying attention to what’s on the board
OK, here goes… Here’s the request. Request is being provided by me, but is being suggested by YoYoFactory.
Hans does not want this thread to be locked. You guys are having so much fun talking about their balls they want this thread to last forever.
They are so fascinated at how seemingly minuscule the percentage of understanding of what they actually do in a yo-yo world, they want to hear more.
To step over or around just about everything that they’ve accomplished in the last 20+ years to single out a functional novelty is more than they could ask for.
So please continue to converse about the balls.
And totally disregard… Watch it 5×1st… And then totally disregard what Dr. popular can do with a product that is actually much more than a novelty. Because if it wasn’t even Dr. popular wouldn’t be able to do much with it.
It appears very obvious that some people were just using the balls as a springboard of an excuse to trash, talk YYF.
You know what I think would be totally amazing?
Well, you don’t know what I think so I’ll tell you
What if… Next year, Mir Kim one his fourth 1A World title using a pair of balls.
Can you imagine the caption under the image on the page showing his winning performance.
