I did not really check the first few pages to see if this has been asked before, but I want to ask if flowable silicone would work for lubricating cubes. Is it necessary to use spray silicone?
What type of silicone did you use?
Use CRC. It will initially feel like you put cement in you cube, but itās important that you keep working it in directly after putting it in the cube. If you donāt, it will set and lock up your cube. But if you work it in, then it should make it turn incredibly well.
Generally what I do is hit it with the crc, do some finger tricks/basic algorithms, then scramble and solve 3 or 4 times. Depending on cube size, that is. Like for my 6x6, I only did one solve. but on my 3x3s I do 3 or 4.
@shadowz - I would recommend against using wd-40. Use shock oil or crc silicone. the petroleum distillates can eat the cube plastic. It usually makes cutting corners harder, and it usually makes the cube worse from what Iāve seen. Itās slightly better than Vaseline, but still not good.
Or you could use jig-a-loo. I could never find the stuff though, and crc works excellently, so I didnāt feel the need to keep searching.
@cinimod - Iāve never actually tried it, but that sounds like a great way to gunk up or lock up a cube. Just stick with spray. You can find it for like $5 in the automotive section at walmarts usually.
shrug
I learned it through a LOT of solves and looking at algorithms. The method I used to use though which is similar, but a little slower than, the fridrich method has a good video. Iāll try to find it again
Donāt cube so much anymore, but I believe I had my average in the 35-45 second range for a 3x3x3 when I was at my best. My personal best was 18 seconds, with some major major ridiculous skips, to the point where I questioned the original scramble (which was done by someone else) so I tend to not really count it. I will take credit for my second best solve of 26 seconds though Other than that, I never bothered timing my other cubes, because I wasnāt very interested in speed solving them, just had them around for when I got bored.
Hey, Iām going to filter out my cube collection soon and add some to my BST. I wish I knew you wanted a Sheng En FII, cause a have a brand new black one still sealed in the box. If my wifi stays up during the hurricane, Iāll post a pic for you.
I have used the Sheng En FII. I would recomend a cube like the Dayon Guhong or Dayon Zhanchi more though. Both my Dayons are smoother, and cut corners better than the FII
I cubing for 4 months and my average of 3x3 is 20s, my best is 16s(no skiped)
I recomment you use F2 for practice or A5, A5 have to break in and F2 is smooth out of box, about Guhong and Zhanchi, these are good but you cant practice finger trick with those because it had great corner cutting. Btw, I modded my Zhanchi, and it can cut 60 degree.
Iāve been cubing for awhile, I know a lot about it, PM me if you have questions. Here are my recommendations.
Learn on a shengshou wind - fast but very controllable if you are new. It will get your accuracy up for a faster cube
Once you are around 30 seconds average get a dayan zhanchi - my personal favorite, fast and cutting corners
BTW its the cuber not the cube, I can solve on my Rubikās brand in under 20 seconds still and my average is around 16 seconds. Getting a fast cube wonāt make you fast.
Here are some short cube reviews,
FII - pieces pop like crazy, and if you use a tighter tension itās too slow
Cube4you cube- doesnāt pop, fast, doesnāt cut corners well, good for modding, very good for practice
Zhanchi - amazing corner and reverse corner cuts, smooth fast, amazing
yup, theyāre just not common, or cheap. Do you solve anything above a 5x5 the same? centers, match sides, fix parity using algorithms from 4x4 and 5x5, then solve like a 3x3?
