CLYW Yeti Release Discussion Thread - Another 200 going to be Released...

I’ve played a yeti and they are super fun. When I buy a yoyo I want to take it apart. I’m not sure if the headache is worth it. But I would love to have one.

I really hate the whole “death spacer” complaining business. For two reasons:

  1. Spacers are supposed to fit tight. It reduces one of the major variables that leads to vibe. Unless there is a serious problem, there is no reason to remove your bearing. There is almost never a serious problem.

  2. The biggest reason people want to remove the spacers is to mess with their bearing, and the #1 reason that bearings get ruined is from yoyo players messing with their bearings. Your bearings, 99% of the time, are fine.

A few people decided at some point that when you open a yoyo, everything should just conveniently fall apart and that’s really just not a good idea for plastic yoyos. I’m sure the moment I post this a handful of people will chime in with their own personal exceptions but YoYoFactory sold thousands and thousands of Protostars and got 1% of the complaining about those very same spacers as we’ve gotten about maybe 1,000 Yetis total. It’s sort of insane to me.

You guys. Seriously. Just leave your bearings alone. They’re fine.

^^^^What Steve said, as in my post above of what happened with a flat bearing in my Yeti. :-\ Keep the ctx in your Yeti!!!

I agree. I never understood why there was so much tinkering and tampering going on when people first get their yo-yo. But, even if you do like to do that, and put a drop of lube on there, it’s not hard at all to remove spacers. That task has to literally be rocket science around here, and I’m one of the few who can do it. When I have removed them, I simply take the right tool for the job, and pop them out. I mean, you can find these little flat head screwdriver things at the local pharmacy or hardware store, and who doesn’t already have one around the house anyway? Someone in your house must wear eyeglasses/sunglasses, or you have some electronics with tiny screws on the back. :-\

My complaint about the spacers is the fact that I nearly destroyed my PGM’s spacers when my bearing in fact did need to be cleaned.

Maybe it’s just me but it seems that many times when I buy a new yoyo, after about 10 minutes of play to a half hour, the bearing starts screeching and yoyo becomes responsive. Last thing I want is to be bit by one of my yoyos at full speed. I usually end up cleaning the bearings, doing a light lube, and I’m set…and not have to touch the bearing for a long time. Other yoyos I bought are still running fine out of the box without any extra kick in the rear to stay unresponsive and smooth.

I do completely understand the “If it isn’t broken, then don’t fix it” and have several plastics that also use these aluminum spacers, bearings are fine, and I never decided to tamper with removing them.

I noticed that recently (on my YYF flight) the spacers fit snug but the seat has a slight taper making removal a ton easier when it comes time a bearing needs to be taken care of.

Really hoping I catch one today.

If i don’t manage to get lucky to score a yeti I shall buy a 2014 benchmark V or W series.

SO when is the Yeti going to be released for real? I might want to buy one but I do not use social pages. I just use the website.

^ My best GUESS would be:

When the improved Yeti is ready. It’s clearly seems like it’s still in the pre-production stage. It isn’t likely that they have a super accurate release date for you now.

Super accurate release date? This one release took in excess of two years. I doubt they have much of anything figured out for a second plastic, ::).

I wont be going anywhere near them if they keep those wretched spacers, regardless.

'Cause guess what, Steve. My bearings do accumulate dog hair, string fluff, what have you, on a fairly regular basis, and I have reservations believing you can diagnose my yoyo maintenance from 1000 miles away.
I mean, what kind of crap is that? Don’t worry about bearing maintenance so that your bearing spacers don’t get messed up?
I’m also not sure your standard for plastic yoyos should be one that stops spinning well after you unscrew it a certain amount of times and the little arrows don’t line up.

Its not like YYJ hasnt figured out awesome bearing seats to use in plastic. Those crap spacers everyone hates were not your only option.

At first i was not happy with the way they are doing this release. Im not a slave to my computer. Having a time is the fairest way to do it. But then I remember all the bad things ive heard about the yeti. There are far better plastics available for less money. So i picked up a YYF Replay Pro for $16. Probably just as good if not better than the yeti.

I understand why they did the release like they did. Its a fun thing to do once and a while. But i think it annoyed more people than anything.

Then I guess it’s lucky for you that you don’t have to buy one.

If they did it regular more people would be unhappy because they might be at work and yye would crash
This way might make a lot unhappy but if they did it at once there would be less chances. The yyf replay is going to be good but I have tried a yeti and it is AMAZING! The replay will be like a good performance plastic yoyo but yetis are way diffrent. They are glass injected. Made by a great company.
I think the spacers are not a problem but If you do not like them

Guys,
I thin the yeti will be released at 10pm est
They release one at 7pm est
and one at 2:40 est

2:40~3

The first release was at 6:08. the second release was at 2:47. 6+0+8+2+4+7=27 The cube root of 27 is 3. HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED So, it should release at 3 today, obviously.

It’s already been 3 here in the East Coast

If they announced the time of release it would give everyone a equal chance to get it, because you can plan for it and make sure your ready. I have never used a yeti so im just going by the things others tell me. The spacer thing doesnt seem like it would matter. Ive heard CLYW themselves saying not so good things about the yeti, Who wants to sand a yoyo? I dont see why everyone is so hyped on it. Good for me i get to save $45

I want to be a orthepedic surgeon or a radiologist. Letis say I work from 9-4:00
I could not get the first two releases becuse I would be doing surgery but I might have a chance at a late release.

So is it safe to say purchasing via mobile device would be too slow?
