I was so perplexed when they released the Yeti 2.0 as it was a MASSIVE downgrade from the much better playing ‘glass’ Yetis. I get there was manufacturing issues, but I think it was a misstep to go with PC for the new Yetis. An acetal version would’ve been really interesting and I know Steve has toyed around with the idea of a machined plastic yoyo. I think an acetal/Delrin/POM Yeti would’ve fit the lineup much better; the Big Dipper and Yeti 2 just feel cheap.
I don’t think the Yeti 2 is all that bad. I prefer it to the Big Dipper and it got me through quite a few big names on the trick ladder.
Having all 3 plastics… I think the 2.0 was too far off on design elements from the OG which was another reason people didn’t take to it as well. And the Big Dipper was overshadowed by the Skyva for me since their release points were at similar time frames.
Personally, I couldn’t help but think of the Mojo as a better spiritual successor to the OG yeti than the 2.0.
The Mojo and Skyva are great, but the size of the Yeti… just right. Pushing the envelope without feeling like you’re throwing a diabolo.
Yeah it’s not bad, I just don’t think that it’s going to wow anybody in 2022. If I hadn’t tried any other CLYW yoyos beforehand, I’d just play it and think “This is from the company people rave about so much? It’s just a nothing special plastic yoyo that plays about as well as a slew of options that are half the price.”
If you’re already a CLYW fan and the novelty of a plastic borealis sounds sweet to you, you’re gonna like the Big Dipper. If you just love snow tires, you’ll like the Big Dipper. It plays well and there’s nothing inherently wrong with it. It’s just hard to say that much positive about a 35 dollar plastic injection molded yoyo that kind of gets blown away by some of the modern machined options, and for only 15 bucks you can get things like the Mojo or Atom Smasher instead. I feel like you have to already be a CLYW fan to get much out of the yoyo.
