CLYW releases 2022?

With how few responsive yoyos there are relative to unresponsive yoyos, I genuinely think there is more to be added to the conversation. The recessed full C-sized bearing and CLYW sized pad (21mm diam) aren’t done enough in responsive yoyos, and its a great combo. With the right gap size its on par with A-Bearing/Core Co (friction sticker sized) for me.

@unklesteve posted what looked like CLYW artwork for a “Leaf” in the CLYW discord, which…maybe? IMHO the Borealis is as good as a Chief.

They feel pretty similar to me. Not sure I could tell the difference if I wasn’t looking.

I’ve played the og one, but never got to try the new big one!

I had forgotten they did a big one, I’m gonna have to find one of those now

To be honest with you, 90% of my desire for one is based in nostalgia

Similar reason I sought one out. Just really wanted to see what it felt like (same with the Summit). Then when I got the Borealis, I thought it was just as good or maybe even better (though it was brand new so that might be a factor also). The Chief shape (was it the first yoyo with that shape even?) has influenced yo-yo so much that at this point, you can get a yoyo for $30 or $300 that feels pretty similar.

The Chief definitely redefined standards! I do believe you’re correct, you see the ripples in design it caused all over the space. The double ring

Looking forward to hearing more about the new Sasquatch. Looks like maybe an oversized bimetal? I love the 2014 Sasquatch. The first oversize I didn’t care for that much, too much weight for me, loved the size and feel though, hoping the new one brings the weight down.

All of this clyw hype has me on the fence to picking up a Big Dipper !!! But I kinda need some context and honest opinions first. I never thrown a clyw throw before so If anyone has tried one out pls let me know thanks

Big Dipper can’t really compare with how extremely good modern plastics have gotten, Speedaholic XX/Shooting Star/etc. Old metal CLYWs still hold up but the Big Dipper and Yeti 2.0 aren’t really indicative of the company and don’t hold up particularly well to modern options.

If you want a pocket throw get a Ditch. If you want one of the best bimetals ever produced grab an Akita. If you just want stellar performance with an extremely comfy feel that has all of the oldschool CLYW vibes get a Boy. Avoid the Big Dipper and Yeti 2.0 if you want something representative of why people love CLYW. Those would be my recommendations based on what’s in stock and readily available.

I like my Big Dipper. It’s still a fun yoyo and capable enough.
