CLYW Canvas Review -- First review! Please give me feedback!

THIS IS MY FIRST REVIEW! PLEASE GIVE ME FEEDBACK!

Introduction:
The CLYW Canvas…Jensen Kimmitt’s new signature yoyo. There was a lot of hype about this, and I was especially excited to try one because it is the same specs as the peak (which I know lots of people love, and I’ve never gotten to try). So I sat at my computer until it released, and the second it was up for sale, I jumped at the opportunity and bought one of the first donut hurdlers. I waited a week and a half, and so now I’m putting up what I think is the first review.

First Impressions:
Well, in terms of first impressions, I was very…impressed. It came in an awesome box with the donut hurdler and longjohn hurdler on the front. I open the box, and the yoyo is wrapped in what seems to be a piece of Jensen Kimmitt’s shirt (red and black plaid). So, by this point, I’m incredibly excited. I unwrap the shirt to find one of the most beautiful yoyos I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to throw it.

Stats:
Diameter-54.61 mm
Width-41.28 mm
Weight-66 g
Bearing-C-size
Response-Blue k-pads (same as snow tires, only blue)

Weight/Bearing/Response:
I picked the yoyo up, and the weight felt average. Not too heavy, not too light. The donut hurdler and longjohn hurdler editions come with custom blue k-pads (for those of you without these editions, yours will come with snow tires, but they are the same size). Snow tires (which I have in my gnarwhal) and these k-pads provide very snappy binds, and are not grabby. There isn’t much to say about the bearing. It’s a standard CLYW C-sized bearing. It’s fine, not amazing, not bad.

On a throw:
I throw it down, and it feels pretty solid—not rock at the end of the string solid, it just isn’t floaty. I bind it back up, and it’s super comfortable. It has a very comfortable shape, and doesn’t hit me with any edges that hurt, or in any bad places on my hand. It has the standard CLYW vibe, but it only has a tiny tiny tiny bit of vibe. The finish is great for grinds, but the vibe effects them a little bit. I don’t do IRG’s, but I can tell it has a lip for them (a lot like the Wooly Marmot’s lip, for those of you who own one). But, even with the vibe, on the string this yoyo is smoooooooooth. Not like there is nothing spinning, but close. There is no string drag whatsoever, and it does not seem grabby at all.

Edit:
So recently I put a ten ball bearing in it and I’ve played it more heavily. Now the vibe is gone, and it is one of the smoothest yoyos I have in terms of grinds and on the string. It might just have been a matter of the string rubbing against the response, and now that that’s worn down, the vibe is gone. That’s my best guess because I don’t know what else would change the vibe.

Wooly Marmot, Gnarwhal, Canvas

Final thoughts:
I love this yoyo. It really will appeal to everyone. For people who like undersized, the organic (butterfly) shape of it makes it incredibly comfortable in the hand, even though it is a full sized yoyo. And of course, being a CLYW, it is very smooth. It really is an all around great player. There is nothing that it lacks in. I think it was definitely worth the $150, and I would recommend it to anyone who can afford it.

great pics and great review, i wish i could have got one

When did yours arrive in the mail, and what state do you live in? I’m in Hawaii and still waiting on mine :frowning:

Today. Also, how was my review (constructive criticism requested)?

I think your review could have used more detail all around. It was kinda short and vague. For example, when you said, “There is no string drag whatsoever…” you should give an example. I don’t know what you mean by “string drag”, but then again I’m kinda noobish. Maybe tell us some tricks/combos you tried and how well the Canvas performed. Also, since you pictured the Wooly Marmot and Gnarwhal, maybe add a few comparison photos (the more ‘unboxing porn’ the better!) and describe the differences between them in the hand and on the string. That’s all I got…my $0.02. Thanks for the review!

Ok thanks! I’ll definitely take that into consideration next time I write a review

I actually liked your review. String drug is a very understandable term. It means the yoyo doesn’t slow down when the string rubs the yoyo. Well done.

Just to add a few things based on my experience with the yoyo.

A. Although Chris compared the dimensions to the Peak, if you look at a side by side, the Peak is at least 1.5mm wider, and very different in some other ways. I think he was aiming for general dimensions, more than what it was exactly.

B. It seems the vibe varies from yo to yo, as mine is absolutely dead smooth. CLYW has always had a bit of an inconsistency with this. Out of my 9 CLYW yoyos, 2 are completely smooth, and the other 7 have a hair of vibe.

I agree with everything you said though. Pointing out the lack of drag is a big key to this yoyo.

Bump! I want more feedback!

cool looking yoyo :o great review too

Great review! The only thing I didn’t like was the tone you used. You acted as if the review was being written as you threw it. Hope this helps! ;D

I’m sorry to bring back this very old topic, but need to know if anyone knew what the string that is on all of the yoyos in these pics is. The yellow and black. I have one of these, but have no idea what kind of string it is. Thanks in advance. Again, sorry for bringing back the old thread, but need to know.

And how is the stability on the yoyo

It’s pretty stable. Not the most stable yoyo out there, but it’s stable.

They’re the Green/Yellow/Black YYE Twisted 100% Polyester strings.
