Can a bad bearing cause vibe?

I have a D bearing yoyo that vibes a bit. you can see the string vibing when landing on a trapeze. but the body of the yoyo is not very visibly vibing. Grinding the nail to the edge only has a slight sound. Could it be the bearing doing that? I don’t have a new D bearing ( don’t know where to get one ) so I can’t swap it out to test. any advise will be aawesome. thanks

Yes. you can check by removing the bearing and giving it a flick. vibey bearings will rattle some amount on their own. it may also be from a bad fit on the bearing seat like being too loose

Also failing friction pad adhesive

Absolutely.

Will PM you a link for D bearings.

I flick the bearing on a pencil. I can’t tell if it vibes. It might be just the yoyo.

You can shake the bearing and listen to how much it rattles. A bit of lube can help dampen the vibe somewhat but it’s just a bandaid fix.

It’s most likely a small vibe in the yoyo given that you don’t feel much with the finger nail test. The string has much less mass than the yoyo body so any small vibe in the body will cause more noticeable vibe in the string. Think about a guitar. the sound is created by the vibrating string. The body itself vibrates as well but you don’t see it.

Is there any known fix or hack for this? I have an N11 yoyo that I took the anodization off of, which looks awesome but now that I did that the bearing doesn’t snuggly fit on the seat. Not a huge deal since it’s a cheapy but before taking the color off it had no vibe at all.

Best you can do is slap an nsk bearing on since those are tighter
