I have to think butterfly knife wins every time. Yo-yos were never actually a weapon (that was just a marketing myth) and butterfly knives are significantly sharper. Yo-yo does have the greater range, but the string is awfully fragile.

Is like compare apples with pears, both fruit but totally different.
Which kind of comparison would you like to do? About playing, tricks, contest, use as weapon?
Them are two totally different skill toys but one is also a weapon which no thank you is not for me.

Butterfly knives are good for looking cool and shotgunning beers. Yoyos also make you look cool but they can’t poke a hole in a beer can (believe me, I’ve tried).

The knife is more versatile
Because you can use a knife to carve a yo-yo out of a block of wood.
But you certainly can’t use a yo-yo to carve a knife out of a block of metal.
