@WantsLyfe93 I prefer to double wrap, I’d sooner triple wrap than use lip balm but that’s just me. If I need more spin time I can just use a heavier yoyo.
When Jerrod was quizzed on his Butterfly setup last year he said something like double wrap anytime the trick needs it.

If you’re changing out the axle I like 8mm-5/16. 6mm does make it easier to shoot the moon but it’s also pushing the strength limits of any timber with a pore structure open enough to work well.
@AudreySickburn prints yoyos for 4mm steel axles and could possibly print some plugs with 4mm inside diameter to fit the holes in a Boise

Does anyone know which TKs came with a birch axle? Not a sleeve, an actual axle. Just 'cause the birch available here is pretty flexible and I don’t know if I’d be happy with it’s longevity. If it is worth using, IKEA use birch dowel for their furniture plugs and are pretty much the right size to begin with.

Woahhh I didn’t know that was birch, I have a whole pile of them. I’m gonna try to mod my saber raider that’s missing a bearing shim into a wooden sleeved axle now!!

Thanks Brandon! I’m excited to be here. The feedback has been great. I have quite a bit to learn. After seeing all the information about axle size alone, It’s pretty clear that there is no ā€œstandardā€.

This has me thinking about developing some kind of custom ordering approach for fixed axles where a customer can spec the axle diameter, axle material, body gap, body shape and even body material (colors, wood species, ect). Maybe even offer some nice Zipline string with it (a fellow Idaho company). Sound like a viable idea??

I would continue to offer my ā€œstandardā€ 10mm walnut axle as well.

Anyway, thank you for your support!

Thanks, Rich at Boise Woodworks

Glad to see another Boise guy on here! If you want to test out some other fixed axle yoyos let me know. We haven’t run it in awhile but we have a Boise yoyo club that meets up occasionally. @Rich

You could do what dazzling Dave or Ed Davidson do and offer custom work I guess. They just invoice using PayPal and communicate via email. Cuts the Etsy middle man a tad. But if you had an order form with options that might be easier to work through.

If you haven’t already you should reach out to Jeromy at zipline so you can coordinate bulk pricing in string.

I’ve also found @rkalajian throw yo (nectar) cotton blend have worked pretty well on your yo-yos too.

Feel free to reach out if you need contacts for folks.
