Hi all! I’m Kerry from Australia and I’m a beginner Yoyo’r (2 weeks!). I currently only own a couple of Duncans and a replay&replay pro. I don’t know what happened to me but all of a sudden I got a yoyo itch when i stumbled into Toyworld and saw some Duncan and YYF yoyos in my peripheral! Next minute…. I bought all of those YoYo’s and went home to binge on YouTube watching literally every single yoyo video made Tbh, i’m 39 now and don’t think I will ever be able to get really good at it but it won’t stop me having fun playing the yoyo as it also brings back memories from my childhood day’s! So the reason why I’m asking for the best recommendations for a undersized hubstack yoyo is so that i can put in my pocket and mess around on the fly (regardless of how advanced the yoyo is). The price is no issue as i have a decent job. I’ve just learned how to do basic bind, the ufo, sideway karate chops that re adjust twisty string and a few more tricks on that level (sorry for forgetting trick names ). Yes, I’ve watched many YouTubers recommendations on what i’m after but, more recommendations the merrier. Then see if they line up with what i’m thinking or if I’m missing something else thats good? Im thinking 888, 444 or little confusion (I’m so ready to just hit pay on the shopping cart screen on a ozzy yoyosite for last 3 days for the little confusion )
Thx in advance and i will be researching every yoyo that everyone recommends to me KER
Honestly any variant of the 888 is probably your best bet. Hubstacks inevitably add a bit if vibe and something like the yyf five will vibe a good bit. Big deal is very small and hubstack play on that is hard to do along with binds in general.
the confusion can be a fun hubstack for responsive play and take measures.
Because YoYo factory owns the patent for hubstacks most of your options will be yyf. There are a few rice stack options from China brands that don’t care about US IP laws but generally it’s all yyf.
If you want to go bigger the old grind machine was a neat hubstack too.
Little confusion is neat but it’s a tad small and hard to play making the hubstacks more finicky than it’s worth in my view but I do take mine with me in a car ride to take measure while in the passenger seat.
444 is super light and hard to play I would steer away from that option for now as it makes hubstack play harder
I love my 888x’s. Affordable, available, undersized, fully capable.
If you want a REALLY undersized hubstacked yo, check out the Big Deal by YYF, or if you want something a little larger but still smol, the 66% 888 plays incredibly well for its size, it’s amazing.
There are many variants to the 888, varying wildly in price, from like $40 for a beat up one, to $400 for a pristine ‘07/‘08.
I have heard the “888 OG” takes its shape from an “ideal 07/08 888” (apparently when they were first made they would vary a bit within the run, they would match halves by hand) and replicates to make what would be a top notch original run 888
Some of the hubstacked stuff I have. I seem to have gave away the myy k1 at some point but I think this collection gives you an idea of what to look at that has that specific gimmick
Small is also its own catagory and if you can go without the hubstacks but want an advanced yoyo that’s small I would say the @Cmchappell97 corvus is solid and the general to Ministar is golden.
Personally I don’t like YoYo’s that go smaller than the masamini and even then an monometal smaller than a recess snack is usually really underpowered. even though I do collect stuff like the strum panzer mini and everything inbetween.
Thx everyone , im def thinking 888 now. The Lemon and five are sold out here in Australia. But there is a superstar Gold 0’8’ & a 888 Black 07’ art. Are they pretty similar or something distinct that separates them?
Turns out it was the yyf usa website that had them None in Australia, only a 444 and LC… I’m going to have to get the little confusion right now and order a 888, maybe legendary and wait 1-2 months to receive it..
Definitely buy some unresponsive/recessed silicone rings for A bearings, unless they’re already unresponsive. My hubstacked confusion is responsive, but still a blast! Just based on your preference to play this while sitting down.
Yeah washyjoshe thx for that! I got them on my list. Im just finalising my checkouts online atm. While i got ya, how snappy is it? And what bearing/string etc you using?
Because my confusion is responsive, I use string on the thinker side to make it snappy. I’ve not dabbled in making it unresponsive yet.
Because the gap is thin, if you’re trying to make it as least responsive as possible, maybe try and find a Center track/konkave A bearing, as well as thinner string.
If you put out a LF here, or the Yoyo Australia FB group you might find a Werrd. Last year I sold a Pacquiao and bought a 4XL, and the hubs are spiked so you can matador without the stacks if you don’t like the centre weight.
Anything with a Lego bump will work, but most Lego bearings are plastic and not great
The hub on the Harbinger (while not undersized or unresponsive) can fit rice stacks even though they weren’t made for stacks. Would be cool if someone made a list of yoyos like this.
