It’s kind of impossible for companies that don’t do their own machining to make budget metals.
Except CLYW, and YYf, and Duncan, and YYJ…
Just because we own the machines, doesn’t mean it costs us any less to make. Those machines and the cost of operating them are very expensive.
I will not wish for a lower price on a 3 pack… Although fancy fish tank boxing would be a nice gesture. If at all possible two different solids with the third being a splash of the two would be ideal. Just “throwing” out the idea…
I would put money on it that the bonfire will not be anywhere near $100. I’m assuming by their pricing now the bonfire will probably be around $135. The campfire was sub $100 but it’s also a very small YoYo and was made before CLYW prices took a major hike up.
Onedrop does a good job making amazing yoyos at a good price. Personall I’m gonna be all over benchmark H!
I really want to try the organic shaped throw. They all look great though and I love the concept. Can’t wait to pick one/two/three up!
I’d like to see 3-packs offered: 1 of each model. My only concern would be “do they just go same color or mix it up and you take what you get?”. I’m not concerned about a special price break for buying all 3. $60 for what these are is more than reasonable. I’ve already layed out the cash to cover buying a set.
I can’t decide if I go all one color for all three or break them up. I’ll probably break it up into three different colors: A yellow, a red and a silver/grey, or a blue as a stand-by. Orange and green are also possibilities.
Please sell some raws! Actually it would be even more cheaper without the use of paints!
BASED ONE DROP PLEASE!!
I know I want a raw too or at least polished ones as an option I’m always at ooh when I see a raw or polished Yoyo!
Nah, each company has their own philosophy and style. OD is all functionality and affordability, CLYW’s more about user experience and flourish and desirability. Wouldn’t make sense for CLYW to do this.
Looks like a fun set - I might just have to get all 3. Or at least the organic and H, since the V looks a bit like a Format:C that hasn’t been tested and customized as thoroughly. Plus, presumably, the weight distribution is most different between the organic and H, so playing them side-by-side will offer the greatest insight into the shape’s role in play.
Totally going to buy a benchmark V when i can. I could not afford a format: c, so it works out niceley! Depending on that birthday money to bring me through!
seriously I really want a red benchmark v so as soon as those go on the market it is mine
!!!
These look very interesting for sure!
RGB! Very nice!
For a CS teacher, I think these MUST be in my possession soon. ;D
Those look great. I greatly prefer solid colors over splash.
Steve Brown had mentioned “godawful” colorways" in his quick announcement on yoyonews, specifically how the Benchmark series would not use them and be solid colors.
While I don’t 100% agree with the term “godawful colorways” in regards to a lot of stuff coming out these days, I’ve seen a fair amount I flat out didn’t care for. Fortunately, with the Benchmark series, they are solids. I too also prefer solids over splash. My two Format C(single and dual sight lines) are both solids. I also like how One Drop is doing simple things to reduce costs while sacrificing nothing to the end user.
Right now, I’m trying to figure out(blindly) what colorways I will choose of the new CLYW’s about to drop. I hope I choose some of the lesser expensive ones this time!
Yeah… no.
OD can do this because they have their own machines, they can program their own CNC lathes, etc.
This is why they do machining for a lot of other companies in the first place.
I’m sure that would be easier if Chris was a CAD programmer or even owned a CNC machine.
I gave my wife the hint about a birthday coming up! Haha
Did you not read Davids post?
If anything it’s far more hassle for OD to make all their throws themselves. A lot of other companies can just send their CAD design off to a machinist and sit back with a cup of tea whilst they wait for the delivery.
You claim that the reason Onedrop can make cheaper metals is because they make them themselves, however I would think that the complete opposite is true. Its amazing that the Onedrop guys don’t ramp up the prices of their throws because of the amount of manual labour involved. In most other lines of production you pay more for something to be made in-shop/by hand rather than outsourced.
I also don’t believe that YYF manufactured the Shutter themselves. I assume that all you need is a cheap source of aluminium and a cheap (probably chinese) machinist.
