I have recently just bought yoyofactory’s Beginner to Pro Yoyo Pack with some additional yoyofactory string as well as some DNA string, it hasn’t arrived yet, however, after making my order I didn’t realize there was different kinds of yoyo strings with different thicknesses and other stuff. I would like to know if there is any yoyo string I could look into, possibly on amazon.
Kitty Fat is a staple of the hobby, thicker strings in general make binds easier. As for material, mostly comes to feel preference. Each string maker uses different blends, so I tend to get a few small batches of a bunch of different things when I order up string.
I really like Alphaline string
I’m on a similar track as you. I have a lot of Yoyo factory poly string and it’s decent on my responsive throws and Duncan’s. It looses a bit on my throws with a 4.5 mm gap but still binds ok. I’m trying cage free string now and it’s a bit better at binds and whips than the YoYo factory and seems just slightly thicker.
You’ll get a lot of opinions. Sochi string is pretty popular as well as kitty. I have some string I really like that I have had for quite a few years but don’t remember what brand or blend it is so that doesn’t help you any or me for getting more of it
No need to be concerned. String doesn’t matter much until you get to more advanced tricks. Just grab something normal thickness and cheap. Magic yoyo string is on Amazon and cheap and fine to use.
I second this. It really isn’t a big deal when you’re first starting, in fact in the long run it’s more of a preference than a “deal”
That being said you really can’t go wrong with a bag of Kitty Fat if you want a name
Yeah don’t do what I did and buy all the strings. Get a decent bulk poly from kitty or zipline or Sochi and just enjoy the throw. Try some pay it forwards where string is usually tossed in and experiment or offer to do a string swap or something on bst to experience some stuff that interests you or buy smaller sample packs.
Local clubs or contests are also a good place to try string and some brands will even send a single string in some cases.
For now though don’t get on the weeds just enjoy the hobby and learn
