It seems like this question gets asked frequently but I noticed there is no current information: Does anyone do aluminum and/or titanium anodizing besides Gruntbull? I know Britton was doing it years ago but as far as I know, he hasn’t done it for a while now.
Small batch aluminum anodizing is still pretty niche afaik, but titanium anodizing is much more accessible so there’s been a handful of people that’ve popped up. I know @dizzo has done a lot and @JesterDClown (I think i’m tagging the right person) has done some pretty cool G2-esque swirls.
I would also advise against Gruntbull. Had a few throws get customized in March of this year but the colors were VERY dull and faded. Instead of communicating with me that he’s not able to polish yo-yos, he just did the anos haphazardly and sent them back as is.
I third not going to gruntbull. I had issues over the years with the anodizing not coming out correctly so I would have to send them back to get redone and then he stopped responding to my emails. I would look into bike part anodizing or paintball gun anodizers on Instagram and try to find someone. Those fields tend to do small batch work.
@yoyojoe@Tiffuhnie@Simyo I’ve heard the same thing for a few years now actually, hence why I haven’t had anything done! I’d love it if someone stepped up and said they did aluminum! Haha how crazy is it that more people are available to do titanium than aluminum??
It’s a different process anodizing aluminum requires dies and lots of acid that’s not good on the respiratory system. Anodizing titanium requires water and electricity or heat. So anodizing ti is much cheaper and easier to get started in the hobby.
