I don’t want to drop a ton of money on (4) new yo-yos for 3A. At the moment I’m looking for plastic or monometal models where I’ll only have to spend less than $50 for each one, if anyone has any good suggestions please leave me a response, thank you!
While I have no experience in 3A, I have been thinking of trying it out.
I have a YoyoFriends Shortcut that is phenomenal for 1A, and honestly, was thinking of picking up 1 more and using them for 3A.
The yoyorec staaater is really good, but the rings sometimes fallout when the yoyos crash together. Newts are also really good for durability. Also I don’t have a pair myself but I would look into the yozean schwimmpanzer, they’re really cheap and they weigh the same as the hades without having to spend 400$
If you want name brand I’ve been using yyf superstar 2024 other option I’ve heard was good was the offset deviant(not the plus) If you don’t care about name brand check out the under $20 Amazon throws, probably monometal to start with 40-45mm width and more extreme rim weight. I don’t recommend you get something you care about because they will get wrecked.
Edit/after thought. I usually look for b-grade sales since any ano flaws or minor vibe will be negated in the first few throws.
I’d recommend th YYFr shortcut, stable enough for 3A and its not overly wide. Way under budget per yoyo too
There are C3 cyber crash 2 or 1 and Magicyoyo N12. They are good pairs for 3A
Yooo lets goooo Colossus R are a very good 3a starter yoyo also. N12 and cyber crash 2 are kind of the standard recs. Shortcuts will definitely work but if you have small hands, you might want to look for something a bit more narrow. The schwimmpanzers are an amazing yoyo like super cheap and heavy bimetal under that budget, some amazing chinese players have done really well in contests with them, the downside is that the rings will shift pretty easy, but also do pop back on just as easy, that will be a bit annoying as a new player tho bc youre going to get alot of clashing at the beginning. Also i think anions might be a tiny bit above 50$ but the anions by unplrd are very good. Idk dont over think it also, lots of good options. Have fun yo! Let us know if you got trick questions. And heres some intro info and a tricklist easy to hard
I also have no experience, so listen to Henry instead of me
If I were to make a recommendation under $50, I’d look for a pair of YYFriends Graviton: Y on the BST. It has 7068 Al for durability, and the extra rim weight makes it the most stable mono I’ve thrown. If you can find them, they’re < $50 each new. Only downside might be the width.
Any suggestions, @ice1000? (Aka one of the 3A goats of the forum, imho).
@Solemn_Kaizoku I checked the stats, they seem great, but I’ve never used such a pair to be very sure. 47mm is not an issue until you are good enough at trapeze & coro coro and is ready to try out sidestyle tech or velvet combo.
I had an entire velvet combo that is compatible with wide yoyos. As long as you only have symmetric tricks it’s ok
My suggestion is to always use bimetals/hybrids for the noise reduction and the stability, but that conflict with cheapness. I’ve been using Colossus R a lot for practice, and they are above 50$, but below $60.

Honestly, just for getting started, use any yoyo should be good. Matching strings matters more than matching pair of yoyos
