I feel like those Hex are old old proyo ones back in the playmax era

Laying them all side by side is quite the sight. You can visibly see the differences; especially the 5.5mm one; it stands out a lot. For some reason I really like that number for a diameter. Knowing that the steel axle fits in it is a plus.

I was thinking about the axle earlier, and I kept thinking about the Noble fixies from the 90s. They were wooden yoyos with VERY thin metal axles. Brass piano wire, basically. Adjustable gap and weight system as well. So in the back of my mind, I’m wondering how we wrap a wooden sleeve around a 2mm brass/steel axle for a maximum size of 4-5mm.

I think you are right. I don’t think I have any from that era but I’ll have to check.

If this becomes a thing and it’s terrible then @washyjoshe gets to destroy one.

Found a video by Doc Pop about this Doble! Apparently it’s one of his favorite fixies. For take apart, an m2 screw might be iffy for durability, Doc mentioned in the video how you could bend the axle carrying it in your pocket. It’s super interesting though and I like the overall idea…

Forgive me but I was thinking over this just the other day. I get what @Captrogers is saying about thinner axles, and I’m about to drop one of your Ultem blanks into a throw and try that on. What I was wondering is if the diameter is too critical or whether something that would slip over a nice robust M4 axle would be workable. I understand larger diameters, like a 3/4C bearing blank, are going to play differently than a smaller diameter sleeve. I was considering hooking up with a local woodturner in Our Little Town (Resume Speed, BC) to make up some concept pieces and then throw them for a while.
