A Year of Fixed Axle - "Fixed Axle '15"

I enjoy that song, had to look it up after I saw your video!

Paul Simon - Me and Julio down by the schoolyard (for anyone interested)

Love the song too. I always try to use fun songs.

Nicely done!

I just got my old busted up metal drifter and turned it into a fixed axle yoyo. This started because I have no yoyos with me right now since my no jive needs a new axle and I was playing with my profly in my guitar class and my teacher took it for a weekend because I was distracted by it.

Spirit bomb: I find it amazing what some people can do with a fixed axle. For some reason I just have trouble getting any of mine to sleep for a ten count.

I’ve tried fixie spirit bomb a few times. Returns on that first pop every time because I can’t seem to do it in a way that maintains tension.

And since you need to give’er a rip in order to complete the trick, that’s a mighty hard return.

Gotta make sure you separate your hands far apart from one another so there’s no slack.

Also side wind to loose tension on your string to have room to play with…

If you have too much tension, the throw will snap back easier.

Now I’m working on landing Spirit Bomb with my new No Jive.

Had to show you guys my new yoyo. I’ve wanted a Koa yoyo for a very long time. I came into some old growth Hawaiian Koa planks a few months ago, and knew right away that some of it had to become a yoyo. And who else do you talk to about getting a fixed axle yoyo made other than the fixed axle artist, Colin at Tmbr. After a number of emails back and forth I settled on a Sullivan. Colin was kind enough to humor my desire for an ALL Koa Yoyo. So this one has, not only a Koa body, but Koa caps and axle! Colin let me know because of Koa being a softer wood the axle wasn’t cutting right, but in the end he got it worked out. I loved Colin’s yoyo’s before, but after getting to work with him on this I love them even more. Thanks again Colin!

Really, really nice.

BEAUtiful Sullivan!!! :o

That Sullivan looks great. I picked up a purpleheart a couple months ago and I love it.

What are some good fixed axle yoyos under 10 dollars other then proyo or pro fly.

There really aren’t any, unless you want to mod a Butterfly with a wood axle.

The Duncan Butterfly is great! Checkout Drew Tetz on his Butterfly’s.

Is pro fly good?

Really good. Grab a John Higby one. More expensive, but so worth it.

Some how I never got the butterfly to work. It always had a bad time responding on tugs.

Aaron, that thing is simply TOO sweet! KOA in the house!

@Someone – there’s a point at which your hands cross over each other. Happens twice, actually, once for each pop.

Unfortunately, “spread your hands far apart” doesn’t apply to that scenario. (I don’t think! Unless I’m missing something rather obvious!)
