A Year of Fixed Axle - "Fixed Axle '15"

i’ve been throwing lacers for a few days, and i like them a LOT. really different feel, but they do everything i expect, and certainly more consistently than “regular” cotton. super cool.

I used to be an offstring player before fixed axle 15. Sometimes I like taking the string off my no jive and do some horizontal offstring tricks.

Yeah. I did this till about 1991 to 1996 on fixed axles lol

Should have samples of shirts by the end of the week fellas.

Also, when is this Fidalgo happening?!

Awesome! And yes, I’m also curious about the fidalgo…I wish they would just take my money.

Fidalgo is officially releasing this Friday @ 8PM EST! We will make an announcement with a countdown prior to the release!

Have you guys hit a wall yet? I don’t mean physically, I mean mentally. I’m a teacher, so part of my problem is that March is our busiest month and tons of stuff has to get done before Spring break. I’m also the CompSci department chair, so I have even more additional things to get done. This has really interfered with my throwing. But, to be honest, I’m still perfecting looping. I’m pretty good with both hands now, but trying to do them together is hilarious. People could get seriously hurt. So I’m still just throwing with one hand at a time. If any of you have found inspiration out there in video form or tutorials, let me know. I’m kind of stuck in a rut. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes. I’ve hit a wall. Inspiration issues I think. I feel like the plateau I’ve hit has lasted too long.

When all else fails, or you lose inspiration, go back to the basics. I’ll grab my old Duncan or Yomega trick book and start going through those tricks again. Learn some picture tricks you don’t know. Figure out different variations of old school tricks. Watch Dennis McBride videos & learn the tricks on them.

For myself when I find I hit a wall, it’s because I’m taking it too seriously, so I do the above

It’s ups and downs. That’s the nature of it, for sure. Not just fixed, but yoyoing in general (and anything you pursue as a means of personal growth). Some days I can hardly string a couple half-decent tricks together and others it’s like they’re just falling from the sky waiting to be picked up. Remember that practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice IS perfect. Some days tying the slipknot and throwing down a few times is the best you can manage and it’ll feel like you’re getting nowhere. But you are, and throwing down on those days is harder and more meaningful than when everything feels like it’s clicking. There’s no timeline, no checklist, and no relevant comparisons or judgments. You’re alive and have the ability to throw a yo-yo around and give the laws that govern the universe a little fist bump. Just try and find the joy in that and let the other stuff fall away. Some days it’s hard, but even on those days it’s still playing with a yo-yo.

As always, inspired words from the master. Thank you Ed!

Wow that is the real stuff there. Thanks.

Great insight. Thanks, Ed. I appreciate that you took the time to post from the heart. And thanks, Aaron for the suggestions. I’ll try them out. And, Skinny, just knowing that I’m not alone in my frustrations is reassuring. I think that’s what I was looking for. Spring break can’t come fast enough.

High five. It’s not like it’s anything you guys don’t already get. But whether we get it or not, some days it’s hard to keep fighting the fight, and others we laugh that it ever felt like a fight at all! Best wishes!

Well said!

So I received my order of Toxic Lacers yesterday. When I got home I put one on my go to No Jive (stock original 70’s SF made). Right off the bat it was the slickest cotton string I’ve ever used! Toxic wasn’t kidding when they said it felt like poly. It was the first time I’ve ever had a unresponsive No Jive ;D I almost stopped testing it right there and took it off and put one of my standard cottons back on. But after manually winding it several times (was so slick I couldn’t even bind with it), and manually redoing the tension, all of a sudden they broke in. And I’m in LOVE with it now! The Lacers have a great feel to them, real soft. I haven’t tried them on any other yoyo yet, mainly because I just restrung a bunch of my fixed axles, but looking forward to trying them on the Tmbr’s and some of my other No Jive setups.

Also, if this string is anything like other Toxic strings, I think it’s going to last forever also! Would HIGHLY recommend these to anyone on the fence about them.

So the Broke Village Fidalgo has dropped! I know both Berto and I each picked one up. Who else got one? What color did you choose?

I got Gray. Was all about the purple, but changed my mind at the last moment. Got some baby pink kitty XL’s. Gonna see how well she purrs. Can’t wait!

I got in on the Black. I am all about the Black/Pink string combo lately. Can’t way to see how this works. I am going to make a wooden sleeve and a delrin sleeve for it too.

I really want to get one, but right now, the cash flow isn’t there. Plus, I’m really starting to fall in love with my wood throws. The Currier and Eh are my go to throws right now. It’s only a matter of time before I get one, though. Black is my target color, but I really don’t care which one I end up with.
