A Year of Fixed Axle - "Fixed Axle '15"

Cool!

Here’s a picture trick. I can’t stop rocking this ProFly, and sporting one of the Duncan shirts I got for Christmas. Wearing the Walking Dead Freakhand shirt today (this is honestly the coolest shirt I’ve got, complete with a yoyoing zombie). Anyway, figured I’d share this with everyone, based out of the gondola-stall configuration.

Not sure what to call it, open to suggestions. Here’s the link: http://instagram.com/p/xyEp-OI-7K/

How about the Bermuda Triangle? Is that already the name of a trick?
I’m still working on Hop the Fence and front loops. I can do 7 of each pretty consistently now before the yoyo starts to tilt. By the 10th loop the yoyo is tilting so badly it usually spins out. This is still major progress for me since I could only do 3 in a row at the beginning of the month. I’m hoping to move into punches soon. When I get there, I’ll make a video for you guys. My goal of 52 tricks (1 each week) has been scrapped. I would rather master these tricks so I can do them as effortlessly as the tutorial videos I’ve been watching.
Keep up the good work, guys!

You too Mike! I’m not sure if Bermuda Triangle is a current trick name. I contemplated “Pythagorean” for it, or “Tangent,” both of which are terms relating to triangles in mathematics. Not sure which I’ll finally land on.

Keep up the practice, I know these videos are short and Instagram style, I’m gonna be working on a full length video at some point.

Ok, so I’ve decided to really focus on 2A for my Fixed Axle '15 goal - loops, punches, shoot the moon, etc. And then move into 2 handed tricks like milk the cow, vertical punches and stuff like that. After searching many online resources and YYE’s boards to death, I’ve found out two things.

  • Practice, practice, practice. I’m prepared to put in the time and am already throwing about 3x as much as I did in the past.
  • The yoyo should be leaning in or out depending on what trick you’re doing. Most say leaning in for front loops (11 o’clock) and out for hops (1 o’clock)

So here’s my questions -
how the heck do you lean the yoyo? Up until now I’ve been throwing the yoyo straight down or out and it appears to be holding that position. But that’s clearly not the right way because I can’t keep the loop going past 12-15 loops. The string is rubbing the yoyo and starts vibrating which interferes with position of the yoyo and sends it spinning like the UFO trick (only in a bad way).
how do people loop forever like they seem to do? As I’m looping, especially hop the fence, the string is winding tighter and tighter. Eventually, the string is so tight the yoyo does the UFO thing again. The idea of doing 50-100 loops seems impossible.

Can someone pinpoint what I’m doing wrong? While practice is improving my consistency, it doesn’t seem to be fixing the two problems above. Would a video help you understand what’s happening? I can make one later tonight.

Thanks in advance and
Keep throwing!  :D

Mike, I’ve been looping pretty heavily this week, and I’ve learned one thing. You can continue through/recover from those vibey UFO-esque situations. It doesn’t look smooth, may even look ugly to a lot of people…but it’s fun. Don’t be afraid to evolve with the looping session. I find that if you hop the fence a few times, you can tune that vibe out mid-throwing. Then pop it back into looping.

As far as controlling the tilt, I can’t speak on that. I try to watch the tilt as it comes back and throw the loop or hop that the current tilt dictates. I guess this would be the “go with the flow” looping method. Not sure exactly how one would be able to control that, it would take more skill than I’ve got.

Thanks Skinny. I’ll try that. I have noticed that I can “push” my way through the vibey loops but to be honest, I don’t know what I’m doing to make that happen. It’s very inconsistent for me. I guess I’m just a bit impatient. I really want to master this because I feel it will open doors to the rest of the 2A tricks. Oh well. I’ve also noticed that some 2A tricks really require a bearing, so I guess I’ll have to postpone those. But I did Tidal Wave today! So that’s something! ;D

I don’t know what that is, but Awesome. Initiating video search.

got 5 dollars to waste on my amazon gift card order… profly?

theres also a no name wooden yoyo…

ProFly. Most definitely ProFly.

I’ve got one of those Coffee Higby’s also. Once I saw he used coffee in the paint I had to have one!

You can’t go wrong with a Profly.

This.

What he said.

The ProFly is slowly becoming my favorite carry around fixed axle yoyo. I have 2 and plan to get a couple more. I love my wood yoyos, but for everyday use out and about, there’s no worries with the ProFly. Oh, and the Hildy Brothers “the Currier” has a very similar profile, so when I’m home, I like to use the Currier over carpet. So much fun.

Take that Currier out in the wild Mike! It’s pretty tough.

About to say the same thing! Give it some love marks :stuck_out_tongue:

Shipping was too much! No profly for me… Now I have to use my crummy nojive and eh!

The nojive stays on my person all day, so imma avoid this silly plastic hype. Rubbin is racin’ … Err.

Sidenote: the other part of my order was the finest cotton thread I could find, ill holla at you guys about that once I twist some up.

Yeah, I really should. Maybe I’ll get another one to keep pristine. That’s the reason I got 2 Eh’s. I was going to pick up 2 more Proflys anyway, so I’ll check it out.
