A Year of Fixed Axle - "Fixed Axle '15"

Get a John Hibgy one ;D

Actually I do! It’s a ProYo, though, so it’s more like a real looping yoyo. The Fly has a butterfly shape which is a little more forgiving. I threw my John Higby ProYo last night and it was awesome. Seemed like sacrilege, though. Too beautiful to throw around recklessly.

Should I feel bad that I throw my John Higbys?

Haha… I think mine play great, but then again, I throw everything I own… except for Fixed Axle 15, no bearings!!!

I have yet to get a Profly but I have a few Proyo’s. The Proyo is fun, cheep and durable. I use it when I try to teach my granddaughters how to throw.

tom kuhn string is almost too good. type 10 has nothin on it.

Way too bouncy for me, but not bad.

I really wish some of the more cork loving string makers showed us old fixie lovers some love… I actually like the 10 thick cotton on here but wish it was a little longer or we had a longer option to purchase.

But I also get it, supply and demand… not enough demand to justify unless we have a string maker that just wants to do it for a handful of us.

I’ve been trying to convince a custom string maker to start supplying us. I just don’t have the time or room to set up a string rig at the current time. I’m not very tall, so the length doesn’t bother me, I’d like to try more thickness options than type 8 or 10, I feel constricted with just 2 options.

I do not know how I will like the 10 cotton string, but, I sure would like to try it out.

While others disagree, it’s very similar to what TMBR throws come with stock.

I liked the string my Baldwin came with so if is similar I’m in.

If you want to test before you buy, PM me your address and I’ll send a care package out.

Everyone be sure to check out Berto’s Play Simple blog! Link in my signature, keep an eye out for posts about once a week, guest entries welcome. Just send to the contact e-mail for consideration by the main man himself.

I haven’t been playing much or making strings because school. I’m going to perfect my string making and make more consistent strings.

tonights grind:

sidewinders, double or nothings, brother slacks, and a stalled yuuki slack ive been working on.

maple capped walnut axle eh with type 10
and
optic star butterfly no jive with some shims and a dead duncan pad.

too much fun.

What shims did you use/make for your No-Jive?

i took ‘soda can box’ thin cardboard, (orange lacroix specifically,) and drilled two holes in it the same size as my axle. i took a spare axle and held it over the hole, and traced around it with a pencil. cut out the shape with scissors and put it in the yoyo. make sure the printed (glossy/ colored) side of the shims face in opposite directions, as in print facing out toward the axle nuts, or facing in touching the wood axle.

made mine almost two pennies gap like the eh. still experimenting though.

In case anyone needs some inspiration this year, check out YoYoNews Fixed Friday posts, there are around 50 of them.  Each includes a video with a blog post about the particular trick, done by Drew Tetz or Ed Haponik, with some guests here and there.

Some great stuff.

I’ve been watching those when I get time. Or search fixed axle on 365yoyo for some other cool stuff.
