A message to young players...

So, I cannot love two companies? Onedrop has a soul in their product whilst yyf has more of the H-shape which I like. Eventually Onedrop will have an H shape and I will be happy. I love onedrop because of the things they do (winsauce, side effects, finding out how to engrave nickel plating, community designed yoyo project) and I am getting another y factor in the mail right now. But I feel more accustomed to a severe H-shape or v-cut shape, which Onedrop will not produce until either the community yoyo is created or, to quote David:

so, yes, sponsorship is confusing. Should you join a company because you love them? Define love for a company?

Also, why do you bring up the loyalty factor? Mark Montgomery was on 3 teams before Onedrop. Gentry and Jensen on smaller teams before the jump to yyf. I believe Adam Brewster was on 2 other teams. Stuff happens, players change.

And then you bring up, I shouldn’t accept sponsorship because…I like their yoyos? I thought that was the point, you like their yoyos and choose to represent the company.

And you say, because they can do whatever I want them to do? Uhh…like what? Wait, “DAVID, GO MAKE ANOTHER RUN OF P2’s”…didn’t work…

it’s ok that you love them.
then you should learn to represent them.

So you think it’s ok to be a total ■■■■■■■ ditch a company because another one made you a “better” offer? Why would a company sponsor you if they see you have your mind in other places?

And why do you think people get so much hate when they leave a team? Sure, many big players had many teams, but they were on teams like Buzz-On, or Anti-Yo, which have completely died since then.

And yes, I said that you said that they can do whatever you want for them. Earlier in the thread, you simply stated the want for sponsorship for personal use:

That’s another reason why you most likely won’t get sponsored. It’s not all about you. It’s for the company, and for the people in the company. You become friends with them, you help them, they help you. Ernie’s like a coach to me, like someone I can remember and say “Hey, that guy really made a difference in my life when I was yoyoing.” I’ll be able to say that and not have to end it with “until “blank” company came along.” Because I’m loyal to General-Yo.

Samad 1 year ago there was a thread about “what 3 company’s do u wanna be sponsored by”
u said
1 onedrop
2 YYF
3 (i cant remember right now)
but it wasnt general yo so why did u agree to get sponsored by general yo when u already before didnt mention that u would like to get sponsored by it ?
and now ur saying dont get sponsored by a company u dont like and stuff :-\

I totally agree. While Alvin isn’t necessarily a coach, he is a good friend and a great supporter. With the exception of SER this weekend which he couldn’t make, he’s always cheering me on at contests, and not just him, his family too. I try to represent them as best I can because they make great yoyos that I think everyone should at least try and because they are genuine, generous, and kind people.

Because I had never heard of General-Yo at that time. In fact, that was more than a year ago - It was almost two. Back then General-Yo hadn’t even existed. After using their yoyos, I knew that I wouldn’t want to use anything else. In fact, I don’t have one non-General-Yo yoyo in my collection - hence, the loyalty part.

I yoyo as an anti drug, not really for fun, not to win contests.
So I guess I should quit since I don’t fit into your narrow view of why people should yoyo.
Let people do what they want for the reason they want to do it. Don’t be talking down to these kids like you know their motives in life, or in a way that makes you seem smarter because you are above them.

Lets challenge your incite here a little bit. For starters

  1. Now what if someone finds the only fun in yo-yoing is competing. They gain no pleasure in preparing their yoyo tricks to not compete with. Your logic would say this person is not having fun. When every day in fact they could be going to sleep late and waking up early because they are so eager to yoyo, and so happy with their progress that they just can’t sleep. What then? Where does this person stand with you?

  2. What if you find someone that has more fun everyday of their life trying to get good enough to get on a team. More fun then you have ever had, even in a single moment of your yoyo life. Are you saying these people are not having fun? Are you saying that you in fact know how they would have more fun?

Why judge them? I have been yo-yoing for 20 ish years now. Not just to have fun but more because, I like puzzles and see yo-yoing as a live action puzzle. It later turned into something I did to stay off drugs. But I guess since you posted this I should stop my 20 years of yoyos and just go shoot up and do nothing instead. Just because people don’t fit into your limited mind of what should be fun doesn’t mean you are right.

How ever it sounds like you should never yoyo to compete, or to just do it as puzzles or what ever. I can see how if you fallow your advise you will have more fun. Understand that what you find entertaining in something could be the very thing someone else doesn’t like. You know the old phrase opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one, and everyone else’s stinks.

I guess my first post on this thread was unclear, I apologize for that.

Simply put, if I get an offer from either onedrop or yyf, I’m jumping at the chance. Why? I like the company more than others. However, when a player does get sponsored by a company, there are certain, “perks” to the offer. You get free yoyos, and sometimes you get a free trip to a contest. Some people are in it for the yoyos and some are in it for the travel, but you love the company either way. In my first post, I am stating I like sponsorship because of the travel. I mean, I’m not going to force a company to fly me to worlds, DXL, BAC, BLC and other competitions. It would just be nice to get a flight to one-two competitions a year. I have never been outside the northeastern US/Canada, so it’s just nice to be able to meet some other throwers in the warmer part of the US (I’m looking at you Samad…)

I would never leave a company that is still running strong. Imagine this, lets say, you meet a girl in 9th grade, and you are in total love with her, but she doesn’t love you back. So, you grow up and have a wife whom you almost love as much as the girl you met in 9th grade and a few children. Suddenly, you get an email from the 9th grade girl asking you to marry her. Are you going to leave something after you’ve built a strong connection with it? Of course not. (I know, suckey example.)

Also, by no means am I saying that I am good enough to be sponsored, I am just saying that when the time comes, I’ll know how to choose.

This was a very thought provoking article by Zammy/Brewster that I read a few months back:
http://www.zamstrom.com/?p=374

EDIT: I guess I’ll respond to the post above aswell

I find competing the most fun part about throwing. The countless months spent preparing tricks. The sleep-less nights. The long drive. Most of all, I LOVE the adrenaline rush/nervousness you get from getting in front of hundreds of people and throwing. So call me a junkie I guess… :-[

This is an interesting conversation.

Dude, read the whole post. First, anti-drug? What? Second, I’m ultimately saying don’t take this totally seriously. I’ve commented several times in this thread and obviously you haven’t read them, or at least read them thoroughly. I love competing. Its really fun. I’m saying don’t get bent out of shape about losing and things like that. And don’t get caught up in getting sponsored. Everyone thinks of it like sponsored vs. unsponsored. The have’s vs. the have not’s. Its not like that. I’m just saying, its a toy guys. i honestly don’t see what all this heated debate is about. This is what I’m talking about. A TOY really shouldn’t be argued about this much.

Im sorry if this is off topic, but reading through the posts about loyalty, it would be really funny to wear you favorite company’s/ sponsor’s shirt for 1a then change into a Duncan shirt for 5a.

the thread was in 2009 general yo started like late 2008 so it existed then also yyf in the past let there players use what ever yoyos they like (yukki with the DM ) u know u dont have to not use any other yoyos than ur sponsor to be loyal also if u talkin loyalty C.Ronaldo Left Man Utd and went to madrid because its better he didnt stop and say no i have to be loyal
my point is see what is best for u and do it  and if u happen to receive an offer from another compant that liked or suits u better go ahead and agree ;D

You’re really comparing professional soccer to yoyoing?

And Samad meant that General-Yo wasn’t popular yet.

Except YoYoFactory and General-Yo are completely different companies. You really don’t know what you’re talking about.

easy guys-we dont want a thread lock

Yoyoing is obviously about fun, but being sponsored wouldn’t be bad.

u didnt even see the thread -.- and ok other than CR, B-rad left BBYY so he also didnt say no i wont leave it to be loyal that has nuttin to do with loyalty

This thread is hopeless…

What does that mean? I think that some valid points were made.
