My yoyo brothers and sisters, I hope you’re all doing well.
A few days ago, I got rammed by an idiot while riding my bike. Thank God I was wearing a helmet. Unfortunately, my “throwing hand” got messed up pretty badly. My elbow and wrist are a complete mess.
Besides the physical pain, what hurts the most is that I can’t throw.
For me, yoyoing is so much more than just a hobby. Among all the things I get from throwing, my yoyo is also my therapy. It’s one of those things that helps me clear my head and feel like myself.
And now I honestly don’t know when, or even if I’ll be able to throw again.
As if that wasn’t enough, my yoyo got killed too. My bag got caught under the wheels during the accident, and just like that, I lost everything that mattered to me in a matter of seconds.
Sorry for the rant. I guess I just needed to get this off my chest.
But if there’s one thing I want to tell you guys is that never take anything for granted. And please, wear your damn helmets.
You never know how quickly everything can change.
The important thing is that you’re alive, because it could have been worse—much worse… hang in there, don’t let yourself get down!
Before you know it, you’ll be yoyo-ing again—you’ll see, it’s just a matter of time
The downside is that you’ll be unable to throw for a while… that’s something you have to accept without beating yourself up over it; it wasn’t your fault.
You could try a one-handed skill toy to help ease your anxiety and see if that works for you
Im just glad you’re not horizontal! I concur with @SlowThrow. The only thing that cannot be replaced is you. What was in the bag, if you recall? Perhaps an effort can be made to replace what we can.
And for the record, you will make a full recovery. That I’m confident of. Can’t wait to see you throw down again!
Glad to hear you are safe! That’s scary stuff. We’re teaching my daughter to drive and we had a long long conversation about watching for bikes and motorbikes. Not enough people respect their space and they just don’t pay attention. Hope you heal fast and can back to it.
To repeat others… sorry you got dealt this hand. If there’s one piece of advice I can give… do NOT skimp out on your therapy!! It may hurt like H E double hockey sticks but push through. The name of the game is flexibility. You need all of those joints to heal with as much mobility as possible. Right now all off the muscles are cinched up tight as can be due to the sudden tensing followed by the shock of the impact. You have to stretch that out of there or it’ll freeze up around those joints and you’ll be much more tight and pain ridden for the rest of your life. Better to suffer through it now more intensely for a short period than to be plagued with it the rest of life. Take it from an old guy. Now… as also mentioned… what throw/throws did you lose?
I just want to take a moment to say thank you, to everyone who reached out, sent kind words, checked in on me, or offered support.
Honestly, I didn’t expect such an overwhelming response. It means more to me than I can properly put into words.
This community has always been special to me, but seeing how many of you stepped up, reminded me once again why I love being part of it. I have few older yoyos, so to everyone who offered to send me a new one; I thank you, from the bottom of my heart!!
I have no idea when I’ll be able to throw again, but knowing I have all of you cheering me on, makes the road a little easier.
You guys are amazing. Much love to every single one of you.
Thank you, truly. Best community in the world, man!!!
