5A & Stable ~$50

So I’m getting better at 1A, and I want to get a yoyo that’s more reliable that I can add a counterweight to for 5A when I’m feeling spicy.

Currently I’m throwing my first purchase: a MagicYoyo N11 (it was a cheap unresponsive I could get on amazon with good reviews). I’ve been playing it a while now. It’s super wobbly, and the bearing is starting to make weird noises. Pads are unresponsive to the point of being annoying now too.

Budget is around $50. Want it to be stable as a rock, spin forever, and have a good space for catching on the string. Don’t really like the bowl gap, but I’m honestly flexible on shape so long as it’s reliable. Don’t care about size or weight so long as I can hold it in my tiny hands, stick a counterweight on it and give 5A a go.

Been looking at the Horizon and Baracuda, but only cause I have no real direction or idea what I’m doing with so much selection.

If you also have recommendations for good ceramic bearings/lube that are smooth as butter, and pads that will grab on a laceration bind without wanting to kill me otherwise, that’s be awesome! (I like ceramic bearings for my skateboard, don’t know if that’s a thing on yoyos)

Thanks friends!

YoyoFactory Shutter is $45, and it is reliable. if you want to do 5a, you’d probably want a bit wider gap for catching the string. for $55 you could get a Shutter Wide Angle.

What do you mean by bowl gap?

The organic round shape of the N11 in the gap feels a little odd to me. Not a deal breaker, but imagining a v or h shape as what I’d prefer.

Ok yeah, something inverse-round would be ideal IMO. Barracuda was the standard (a long time ago) but anything modern with a similar profile shape would be great.

I hear the Duncan Tourney is really, really good for 5a. It’s quite a bit out of your budget though you might be able to find one used for cheaper.

I don’t do 5a very much though so that’s all the guidance I have.
