You SHOULD use a ball bearing yoyo for 4A, and ideally one purpose built for 4A play.

Before I saved up enough for a Griffinwing, I used a Duncan butterfly that I painted and put ducktape around the rims. I didn’t and still don’t have many yoyos and (except for my Pinnacle which I tried 4a on and impossible to bind) I try to avoid doing tricks that end up with them on the ground.
