2A Tuesdays ( a Looping Thread)

Further proof I don’t need more looping yo-yos… this image doesn’t include my el mijo polycarb setup as responsive with a thick string so it can loop two 720 unboxed on a shelf nor the magic dawn d3 I let my sister borrow and have no need to ask for it back.

This also does not include my other box of responsive yo-yos for 0A play…

A while back I got a pair of Blitz Balls to throw and this one just because I thought it was pretty. It has one black spacer and one gold. I don’t recall if I changed one or this this is how it came but its perfect for me. I’m ripping with it. In the past I have disparaged Blitz Balls but I am a real believer now.

I need some new string. Anyone try Shinji Saito’s Kitty Signature?

It’s a bit expensive and I’m not wild about a tan string. Past that I have no experience with it.

I don’t do many half swaps but this had to happen.

Dang that looks good I’ve been so tempted to do this myself but i’ve held off. I might have to re evaluate that thought. Looks awesome Tommy.

i’m still considering going to raider ex since it has a set of spacers for tuning.

I like my raider ex. all the spacers are nice but once I found the setup I like (thinnest gap) I really never touched the other spacers.

I would have done that but I didn’t like the colors :joy:

I guess I’m easing off 5A May…

Throwing the Raiders today. They require a more exaggerated motion, kind of like the Imperials. I shortened the strings closer to my Loop 720 length. I had lengthened them because the throws were looping up, but even with a longer string it does the same thing. I adjusted my form a little (I think with a slower flick) and can get them looping level again, but it’s definitely more challenging than the Loops.

Happy Tuesday y’all! Looping the fixies again today but I finally ordered a 720 so I’m stoked for that!

Going with the Sochis today. I haven’t been a fan of half swaps but I’m doing it on all my 2a stuff.

So a buddy of mine bought himself a raider (all on his own! I think I inspired him ) and I asked how he liked it and he said, “good but sometime the two halves come unscrewed.” I know this can happen with any yoyo rarely but he’s only had it a few days and I feel like something isn’t set up right. Who’s got a raider and knows why this might be happening? I’m going to see him later tonight and told him to bring it with. Does it have spacers that could be facing the wrong way or is there anything simple like that I should look out for?

There are spacers sort of like the 720 but smaller could be backwards or something. I believe mine also had rubber thin spacers that could bunch up could be one folded over. It’s been a while since I had my old Raider with its original parts. I swapped them fir the sunrise kit and it loops like a dream now.

Which version of the raider did he get I have the ex and a very old hyper raider.

I think just regular raider idk why he chose that like I hear it’s fire but I bet he’s doing the starting out string tricks with it imma find out tonight

It has to be the right colors to halfswap. Red and blue looks good I think. I have blue/green JPL LPs that I like and purple/yellow and Something loopers that I don’t like as much

I did a little experiment today. A Frankenstein looper of sorts.
-One Drop Cabal nuts
-Loop 720 purple spacers
-Loop 2020 starburst insert

Ignore the rough toolpath and alignment mistakes.

Playing the Hornets while it’s cleaning day for the Loop 720s and the Raiders.

I think I’m hanging up the Raiders for 2A. I’ve tried Loop 720 red spacers and the Sunrise kit, both lightly and completely drowned in lube (hence bath day!), and I haven’t found a setup where I like their response. I could deal with stalling out at the end but I just can’t get the response consistently predictable, and I have no appetite for modding them at the moment. I’m thinking of putting the original spacers back in and using them as pocket 0A throws, where they seem to do pretty well.

On another hand, I swapped the red spacers back into the Loop 720 and played them stock and found that I’m noticeably better with them and they feel really nice. I think the one red and one blue spacer combo might be my preference with the Loop 720.

I’m going to put the Sunrise kit back in these Loop 720s. I went in on the AllYoYo Loop 720 campaign, so at some point I’ll have enough to keep one each in the sunrise kit, reds, and a red and blue mix.

Edit: also, in spite of not being very impressed at first, I’ve basically swapped over to Sochi Loop string. It works reasonably well, is fairly cheap, and I don’t have to cut to length usually.

Happy Tuesday! Throwing my preferred setup today, Loop 720s with one red and one blue spacer.

I confess I’m feeling a little discouraged with my progress as of late; not enough to stop practicing but enough to feel frustrated. If I’m honest with myself, it might be frustrations in other parts of my life bleeding over into yo-yo. I played a lot of 5A for May, but I was kind of hoping a little break would let me pick up 2A again refreshed and ready for the grind. I feel really strong with both hands individually but putting it all together is still a struggle. I feel like I’m working hard for my moment where it suddenly all clicks into place and it’s just not happening. Perhaps I’m wrong to expect such a moment and it really is progressive.
