That video is awesome. I started running Shu’s settings and went back to stock and found my own way which was fun.
What’s your setup with those? Mine aren’t responsive enough set up as shipped using the supplied strings (even with thin and thick lube).
I have both version 1 and 2. Both play great. I prefer to loop somewhat less responsive than most people.
For non-dominant hand
Ver 1
1 stock spacer, 1 loop720 red with a shim behind the spacer(level the spacer slightly below the starburst tip)
kitty normal yellow
NOTE: loop720 spacers may not have the same gap width even if they are the same color
Ver 2
2 gold spacers
kitty normal white
I love the feel of the Hornets but I just can’t get the response consistent. I’ve take out one of the shims but couldn’t get the other out. I’m not sure you can even get both out
I have become an expert on taking apart and reassembling Hornets recently. You have to remove the axle to take the shim out on the axle side. I damaged my one Hornet by not removing the shim before trying to pop the caps out.
How do you get the axle out? Trying with pliers and it just spins
I used a vice grip to turn it (I have learned these are also called “locking pliers”).
Okay cool so it does unscrew. I’ll keep trying. Thank you
I went to a hardware store and got two nuts and tightened them together and removed it that way with no damage to the axle.
I managed to get it out with a pair of pliers actually. Axle looks okay too. Response is so much better now. Thanks guys
I know it’s a bit late but I have convinced myself to pull out my 720 collection and take measurements.
First thing to mention is that the Loop 720 comes with a size K bearing which should have a thickness of 3mm. From my measurements, this is mostly true although a few had 2.99 mm or 2.98 mm thickness, which falls within measurement error or tolerance.
For spacer thickness, it seems to average around 3.2 mm for all spacers except for blues, which are around 3.14 mm. Just to note I measured several and they were all around ±0.05 mm off at the worst. In order to make it easier for me I sandwiched the spacers for all measurements
Newer 720s tend to come with purple spacers which are red spacers but apparently more precise.
Now some keen observers would notice that my red measurements don’t match Exmime’s. For this, I took measurements of some really old second hand 720s and the numbers are pretty similar
My theory is that yyf at some point changed the default red settings to match Shu’s old red blue combo. If you do the math the gap of the current red spacers should be similar to the old red + blue.
I haven’t actually bought any blue spacers so these are all second hand. My blue spacer measurements are similar however.
Abellia mentioned the Enyo colors having messed up spacers and they would be right. I also noticed my gold marble and orange 720s share batch numbers with the enyo and they too have wrong spacers. Although not shown here I took measurements of some other discontinued 720s in my collection and I would say a good number of them have the 7.50mm red spacers instead of the current red ones.
Lastly we have green spacers that came with the 720 USA edition
These spacers seem to have the same settings as the mistake red ones
Next, we have Loop 720 Variations
The Sunrise and Match are pretty much the same yoyo. They both use a 720 body with a size B bearing. In order to get a good spread I measured the oldest and newest color of each.
Honestly, I am surprised on how consistent these spacers are. I forgot to measure the thickness of the individual spacer but if I had to guess the bearing gap would be the same as double current red spacers.
Many people would know that the Loop 720 has a rebrand in China known as the Macaron. These yoyos use official 720 bodies but come with a transaxle as default. Most of the time they are bundled with spacers and bearings. The original Macarons had spacers designed by Topyo
Pink spacers have a smaller gap than red ones while the purple are more similar to greens
For some reason, the newest iteration of Macarons come with spacers designed by Yoyobarista.
For these spacers, the pink ones are smaller than Topyo pinks and black spacers that are similar to blues.
Hey y’all… I forgot it was Tuesday! Out today and I only grabbed a 5a yoyo…happy Tuesday tho everyone!
I started 2A tuesday last night and was trying to loop. realized I haven’t used my left arm in a while and my arm is sore this morning lol. I guess thats what i get for putting it off for over a month.
wow that’s pretty cool
finally have a pair of loopers incoming, a-may-zing sale on the gold dust colorway sealed the deal!
I nabbed two of those 720s as well. Was hard to pass up such a deal.
Well done plus some insight we didn’t have. I need to hone my skills so I can tell what is what. Right now I just realize I like one over another but don’t know why. I guess I just get into the state of yo and enjoy the moment.
