2A Tuesdays ( a Looping Thread)

You have the 1st Moonshine?.. If so how does that play compared to it?.. Basically the same or noticeably different?

I don’t have the first moonshine sorry but I can tell you the moonshine too is fantastic. It did take some tweaking to get the response right but once I dialed I’ve been very pleased

I read it has 2 purposely different kind of response pads… That’s sounds very interesting to me

Lol yeah it’s a funny looking yoyo when you open it up. Between the wood caps, different sized pads, and the sort of rough but smooth finish it’s definitely the oddball of my collection

Does anyone have a set of Loop 720 green spacers? What is the gap width? (The actual amount of bearing visible)

Also @yyfben2.deactivated , does YYF still make the green spacers? I can’t seem to find them anywhere.

This is a portion of the spacers I have purchased or taken out of yoyos. I have multiple blues in yoyos in including blues from japan. Barring one set of blues at 2.9mm they all measure 3.0. Red, purple, blue and green all 3.0mm. I have asked someone with a better measuring device to prove me wrong with no success. I’ve measured them sandwiching a bearing with the same result.

Interesting…

Its not the width of the spacers that are different, its the bearing seat and recess within the spacers that create the small bearing gap changes, and theses are small mm icrements

Agreed. So if you want 3.0mm spacers in a variety of colors I’m your man.

So are you saying they are the same in the cup and the difference is the back side of the cup?

Q to anyone using a Blitzball: What’s your set up? I didn’t using any of the spacers included and using the string they came with, it’s not responding much at all. I used thin lube (which is what I’ve seen recommended for looping) and it didn’t help really. Thicker string would be my next step. Spacers would just reduce responsiveness, right?

They all fit in the cup the same, or that would interfere with the Starburst. The seat where the bearing sits on directly is at different depths to give small incidental mm changes to the Gap.

I have measured two spacers sandwiching a bearing and get the same number. It would be different if that were the case.

For better looping experience just use the stock spacers included on the yoyo plus add a bit of thick and thin lube on the bearing and axle for snappy response, for string use any slim or normal thickness and cut the length to short (75-77cm is my go to).

If you measure one spacer and then two spacers and a bearing and still get 3mm, I think your calipers may be broken…

Jokes aside, I think it may just have to do with how utterly miniscule the changes are - the Brand That Shall Not Be Named sells two sets of spacers for their Offstring Yoyo That Shall Not Be Named, which are 1.12 and 1.15mm each, and they make a noticeable difference. It’s even more sensitive for 2a, and there’s other factors like the amount of bearing each spacer exposes (initiator vs 720 spacers, for example), so as long as they play different, there probably is a difference you can’t see.

If you ever get the chance to try a loop up, for example, try videoing yourself looping on a setup - and then turn the yoyo clockwise or counterclockwise just 15 or so degrees, and then retighten, and video yourself again. You may be able to keep the pacing the same, but your loop height will be noticeably different!

Loopers are neat.

Not sure how you were measuring or if you were using calipers. @Eric_Newlin this is a chart of what I measured and there are incremental differences. Also remember the K bearing standard was also carried over from Yomega, and their stock gap width is why they need to be tuned.

720 Spacers Single Sandwiched Gap Millimeter
Green USA 3.2 7.55 1.15 mm
Blue 3.14 7.33 1.05 mm
Red Japan 3.18 7.17 0.81 mm
Red/ Blue 3.18/ 3.14 7.24 0.92 mm
Yomega 2.66 7.5 2.18 mm

We need to sticky this post as the definitive guide…

Out of curiosity, do you have any red spacers from the messed up run of them? I think they came with the enyo 720s, not sure which others had them. It’d be neat to see if (a) they’re consistent, and (b), if they’re more comparable to blues or to greens.

I just have Red spacers from what YYF use to be labeled as Japan 720s.

Any from more recent that play noticeably different from the other red spacers? Or nah
