2A Discussion Thread

Right on. I want loopers that i can learn on right outta the package without having to mod anything. I had raider exs which were pretty good but i lost them lol.

I start this week with the 2a, i bought a magic yoyo d1 and YYF Loop 360. Right now i prefer the magic yoyo but i only can make runs of 5 loops. Iā€™m sure another user with more experience can give us a better advise.

I wrote a guide a few months ago, this is rather intended for beginner so if you are better than me then itā€™s probably useless. Tell me if you have any question.

Iā€™ve been wanting to update it with pictures and wrap guides but I have been lazy and kept forgetting it.

Just got some loopers a few weeks ago. Iā€™d say my right handed inside loops are pretty consistent now, hop the fence is decent. Left hand loops still feel a little awkward but theyā€™re getting there.

I doubt Iā€™ll be able to but Iā€™m shooting for semi-consistent 2 handed looping by the end of the year

Iā€™ve noticed that inside loops are easier and more consistent for me when Iā€™m looping to my side rather than in front of me. Not sure what the reason for that is.

Been trying to learn looping for a while and finally decided to get serious. Currently working on punches and vert punches and outside loops andā€¦ outside hops. My question isā€¦ what is your hand supposed to do for outside hops? I get outside loops, but everything Iā€™ve tried so far with outside hops just feels awkward. Alternately, if you know of any good video clips of people doing outside hops that would work too. I found one, but couldnā€™t see what the hands were doing (poor quality).

For me, when I do hop the fence I put the string over my index finger, so when I go outside hop the fence the string still sits there, though I can just not do that, I feel more comfortable if I do.

Check this video, itā€™s pretty clear. Donā€™t get discouraged by the speed though, it will come later with more consistency.

Thanks for the input. That seemed like a good way to approach it. I donā€™t hop with the string draped over my index finger, so Iā€™ll have to figure out a good way to adapt the form.

Played with it (outside hops) and figured out a hand position that did the job and feels relatively natural, though having the string drape over your index finger feels better, it just doesnā€™t work for me.

Just a quick tip I thought Iā€™d add to this thread.
Something that helped me with getting the two handed loops and hops working well was to practice with one yoyo (on my dominant hand) while not looking directly at it. You look straight ahead and can see the yoyo out of the corner of your eye. You can still keep track of it, but itā€™s harder to tell the exact angle and how the loops are going. It 1) forces you to make good loops as you canā€™t necessarily see when the yoyo is off to correct and 2) gets you prepared to add in the second hand because you canā€™t be staring directly at the two yoyos at the same time anyway. After you get this down you can add in the second yoyo and focus on getting your non-dominant hand to cooperate.

Both Spintastics and Raiders are good to learn on. Spintastics have a fixed wood axle so a little wax at the end of the string helps. I you start with raiders, play them stock until you progress then mod.

Which instructional videos/DVDs do you find most helpful?

Use wax very sparingly, if at all. Too much and it makes the yoyo very responsive. I gave up on that a long time ago. Dry string is the best.

Yep, you just gotta break it in. I used to use wax but now I donā€™t. Trying to think if I ever recanted publiclyā€¦

Thanks for the info.

Iā€™ve done a few mods on Raiders/Fireballs. My favorite mods are:
Fireball- Remove transaxle and replace with Duncan bearing kit with thin spacers.
Fireball-remove axle and replace with raider axle and add raider bearing and loop 720 red spacer.
Raider-Add loop 720 red spacers.
Raider- Add plastic sanded spacers and crank.
Loop 720- Replace red spacers with gold Raider spacers.
I love playing with all of these. Duncan bearings and spacers in fireballs are my favorite. The thinnest ones tend to loop down too far. The black ones work better for me. Fireballs with Raider axle and bearing and red 720 spacers are a close second. The japan ver of the loop 720 with raider spacers is my 3rd choice. Itā€™s easier on the hand, loops better, but unwinds the string too fast! You can get a smaller gap with a fireball with a raider axle as the raider axle is shorter than the stock fireball. You can get a smaller gap with a fireball with a raider axle as the raider axle is shorter than the stock fireball.

Sorry for Zombie thread. Iā€™ve really been enjoying looping lately and was surprised to find very little talk aside from the occasional 2A Tuesday post. Soā€¦ How is everyoneā€™s 2A going? What are you throwing? Strings, spacers, mods, tricksā€¦

Lately Iā€™ve been using a Duncan Hornet lefty and a R2FG Ion Cannon in the right. Iā€™m using the FS 85cm looping string. I love the Hornet and will eventually try the Loop 720 (Once they get it back in the Aqua or Glow/Aqua), but Iā€™ll probably grab a C3 Initiator first.

My loops are looking pretty good in each hand, but I really need to start throwing them together. Also been having a difficult time with throwing Flips. The first one is usually fine, but it quickly spins off to the side. Any advice?

I ā€™ Enjoy the initiator a lot I I want to try the loop string . Been doing the 2020 as well with titanium axle and size 2 response and #2 spacers. Also want to try the LED caps on the 2020

2a still going pretty rough on my end. I think the hardest part about it is the fact that itā€™s really difficult to discern what needs to be fixed or corrected. Even when I do get a good set of 20 loops or so (which is a little more frequently now) I really canā€™t tell yet what Iā€™m doing differently from the five times before that when I spun it out on the first throw. I basically still feel like a spectator lol, itā€™s like ā€œwow thatā€™s cool, I wish I knew what was going on right now so I could do it again next timeā€

Iā€™ve been really considering taking up 2a as of late. A big part of me would like to but itā€™s definitely intimidating. It looks like a lot of fun though and would be really cool to become skilled at.

Iā€™ve been really enjoying my No Jive Purgatory pair running cotton Type 8 at 76mm string length and Turbo Disk inside. Iā€™m planning on setting up my Yomega Raiders tomorrow on 2A Tuesday, they have Red 720 spacers inside and Iā€™m going to experiment with some yellow Slick-6 at 76mm since Iā€™m coming off of the wood and Fixed Axle February. After a full year of Tuesdays, I just know 2A is hard and the grind is real. Persistence is key and its awesome when I get a breakthrough. I can finally Milk the Cow and do some odd syncopation stuff, but still struggle with Tangler, even through I can do a few of the other wrap tricks. I do enjoy the grind of counting and the reps. If I were to give any advice, donā€™t just concentrate on inside loops, looping is all of the outside, hops, stalls, moons and around the worlds combined. There is a strength and muscle memory component to it. Sometimes I just fake it and throw alternating forward passes, the kids watching me at the park donā€™t even know the difference.
