Oh I doubt the 1080s are necessarily better, other than having a key-adjustable gap. Even that could be a disadvantage compared to the Unleashed for some (adjusting gap is not as fast, potential durability issues, etc.). The Unleashed are just as “professional grade” as the 1080s, they’re just different in many ways e.g. bearing, response (!!!), weight, weight distribution.
If you’re just beginning, I would just stick with the Unleashed for now. Since the Unleashed has an adjustable gap, you’re in very good shape. If you’re a proficient looper or if you just want to try something different, hey, go for it.
I just came back from a 7-day cruise and because internet on the ship was way too expensive, all I did on my free time was practice both my 1A and 2A. Mostly 2A especially my left handed loops and hop the fences. I must say, though, that my left hand fences are coming along pretty well.
Right now my only focus are inside loops, outside loops, and hop the fences on both hands. Oh, and around the worlds. Probably gonna work on them exclusively for half a year if not a year. My goal is to get those looping tricks consistent that I don’t even have to think about it.
Yoyo holders have become the rage these days, giving us lots of choices and designs. But I’ve always wanted to have holders for my 2a yoyos. It’s just convenient to have a holster for that kind of stuff. This one camera case I have can only fit one yoyo and I don’t like lugging a huge bag wherever I go. Putting it on my pocket is just tacky too…
Does anybody have any solutions or anything?
I know I’ve seen a few people in Japan make something but I can’t remember where I found it.
SOmething like handcuff holsters that hold 2 would be somewhat ideal.
Between a 1A-type holder, a sling holder for a 4A, one for a kendama, another for a spintop and then adding a double-type for a 2A pair,I’d be looking like Skill-Toy Bat-Freakin’-Man.
Or even a pouch big enough for 2 loopers that I can clip to to my belt loop [or backpack]. Remember those old Yomega yoyo pouches that can fit one Fireball/Raider? Similar to that but a little longer so it can fit two.
Or even a small nest made of leather that does the same purpose.
That’d be sweet though, what Studio42 is talking about. 2A yoyos also need to be babied around!
A holder for a 2a pair should be something like a little case. The handcuff idea would have the downside of having your loopers keep hitting each other with every step. It would be just add annoying as the new Duncan yoyo holder.
So like the Raider/Fireball pouch Yomega used to make in an essence right? :] Yeah, I’m with you on that one, I don’t like the sound of yoyos hitting each other when it can be avoided. At least inside a little case/pouch, it won’t be as bad.
Kinda like the YYE Small Bag but just one, long-enough-for-2-loopers compartment and less tacky.
Small pencil cases work just as fine, but some of them are big enough that it doesn’t look good when I attach a carabiner and hang it off my belt loop.
That gut-churning feeling where a yoyo unscrewed during play and it hit the floor. After putting it back together it sounds more hollow and less stable…
Anyway, what do you guys use to make the axles a little tighter? Yoyos unscrewing during play sucks. I know plumber’s tape does the trick, but are there any other ways?
Loctite (blue) on the axle threads should keep them from unscrewing all the way during play. I used it on my Raider EX pair. Then you won’t have to be paranoid about it falling apart, because if it does unscrew, it won’t happen all at once.
Oh yeah, that’s true… Completely forgot about Loctite. I’ll make sure to grab one when I go to a hardware store. Thanks!
Anyway, I’m debating whether I should buy the 2A instructional DVD by Joseph Harris and Jennifer Baybrook. Does anyone have the DVD to have an opinion? How is it and is the DVD helpful? There isn’t a lot of 2A tutorials around and though I like the tutorials here in YYE, sometimes it’s very vague.
As a 2A player do you find yourself not yoyoing is public a lot? If you do throw in public do you usually only break out 1 Yo instead of both, or do you play with both whenever you want?
Yeah, I find myself yoyoing in public a lot more when I do 2A. Especially when I was on vacation and the cruise ship didn’t have much enclosed spaces that were high enough. So I had to practice on poolside and it’s just a byproduct that I get people looking at me (very often along with compliments and people asking if they could record me).
I just make sure it’s not crowded 'cause I don’t wanna hit anyone. But as with 1A, I know my range and I usually don’t hit anyone but myself.
And it depends… If I want to work on my left handed loops/hops I’ll just take out one yoyo, but most of the time I’ll take out both yoyos just so I can also work on my right hand loops/hops as well.
Now that Worlds is over and some of you have probably watched the 2A freestyles.
What do you think?
Personally, I liked Shu Takada’s stage presence better and his innovation blew me away. Takuma Yamamoto’s was just as amazing, but not everyone really saw how difficult and technical his tricks were so there wasn’t a lot of cheering. Grant Johnson and the smallest things he did during his freestyle that probably went unnoticed like what he does in the middle of a wrap/tangler. Crazy.
Sometimes it’s kinda unfair that other players don’t get the same cheers as some of the more popular ones.
You’re up to a good start! But I really suggest you get a pair of identical loopers. You’ve probably heard of the Loop360/Loop808 and I suggest those if you really want a functional, cheap pair :]
Choosing the perfect looper depends on each person’s preferences. But with SuperYo’s becoming pretty rare I also sugget you get the more recent loopers :]
But hey! At least you guys are starting out and I’m happy.
I had trouble watching the stream and downloading the videos of players I like is not going very well either so I can’t really relate to what you’re saying yet.
I will say that I just don’t think 2A is as appreciated as it should be. Yes, it is very redundant, but just because they are making it look easy doesn’t mean it is. The more I watch 2A, the more I appreciate just how challenging it is.
Super unappreciated…unless you live in Japan. You’ll get what I mean once you watch the videos, Chris. It’s kinda crazy, really.
But I have a quick question…because only very few companies make looping yoyos, is it possible for top 2A players to be sponsored by a company that doesn’t make looping yoyos? Like a top 2A player would be sponsored by sOMEThING even though that company doesn’t make loopers?
Brand loyalty is a little different when it comes to looping and string-trick yoyos. I have a go-to brand for my loopers but my loyalty to string trick yoyos vary.
