Unless whoever posted it is just trying to trick us all :o
haha how could I trick you? It says prague yye x yyf on the hub. and the guy who originally posted it confirmed a popstar. there is no doubt about it. its an awesome mystery pack and im stoked for saturdays surprise!
I mean the Cypher looks awesome, its just that I already own 2 popstars :-/ I guess ill try and pawn it off on the bst
You’re still getting the Cypher 25% cheaper than it will retail for. Getting even a third popstar isn’t the end of the world, it’s essentially free.
And since the popstar wasn’t worth much to begin with, in retail or bst, might I suggest giving it to a friend to get them into throwing? After this mystery pack, I can’t imagine popstars going for much more than $10 in the bst.
Popstar is unresponsive, plus, the size of the Popstar wouldn’t make it an ideal throw for beginners.
Although I agree with you on that, I did learn many of the tricks on YYE up to the master section on my POPStar, including And Whut. However, I’m sure I would have progressed faster with a yoyo more suited for a beginner.
Yeah, but I’m pretty certain most people who dropped dosh on a mystery box aren’t absolute beginners either.
I may as well be a n00b. I’m still trying to get boingy-boing to happen on my YYF Velocity without it twisting tilting, falling and me winding it up again.
Before the mystery box went up, I was looking to go with either a YYF ONEStar, YYJ Surge, or YYJ Classic + upgrade.
Eh. I guess I’d have to disagree with the notion of starting with responsive. It doesn’t take that long to learn how to bind. Yeah, it’s easier to work on the basics like your throw and beginner tricks if you don’t have to worry about binding… but learning how to bind isn’t all that hard.
The last few times I’ve gotten together with with my college buddies, they’ve been super intrigued with my yoyos, and so we’ve messed around with my less expensive throws while we drink. I have a couple of them throwing decently and getting the feel of binding already, and that’s in just a couple hours of them trying it while drinking beers in between throws. Two of them ordered the mystery pack on my suggestion because it’s such a good deal. Before the mystery pack, I was suggesting that they get either the Classic and an upgrade kit, or just go for a Northstar/Protostar/Difussion if they felt comfortable with unresponsive.
I do agree that the Popstar isn’t the best starter throw, and there are much better options out there to start on…but only if you’re buying it for yourself as your first yoyo. If you just give it to a buddy for free, they can’t really be disappointed with it, can they? Especially if you help them learn the basics like a proper throw and how to do the basic binds. After they have that somewhat down, everything else is just practice for them, and there are a ton of tutorial videos to help them that you could point them to. Even though the popstar isn’t the best starter yoyo, it’s arguably a much better yoyo than what a lot of us started on, and can take a newbie much further than yoyos of the past. Yeah, it might be harder to learn stuff on a popstar, but it’s nowhere near impossible.
Excuse my long winded reply, National IPA day just has me in a discussion mood; not trying to argue at all. I just think that starting with responsive yoyos isn’t absolutely necessary, and the popstar can definitely be an acceptable starter yoyo if it’s received for free.
I don’t think I ever said they were beginners.
The bst can definitely be ruthless sometimes haha but I’m hoping that maybe the fact that its the worlds pack edition may help a tiny bit
Do you have a popstar? If not, why not just keep it for a beater pocket throw? At most I could see a couple bucks extra value because it’s a world’s special edition… But even then maybe not, because there are 488 of them potentially out there.
I have popstar and I think its pretty rad for what it is. I mean when you start landing ninja vanish and laceration it’ll bring a smile across your face like the first time you learned it. I don’t throw it all the time but as a pocket throw that barely makes a bulge in my pocket and can do any trick you can pull off, I love it. Put a string centering bearing on it and it will save you the tilt issues. It’s easily effected by string rubbing the walls. So yeah, all in all, it is exactly what they said “fun pocket throw”.
I hope I win the grand prize.
Just throwin that out there. ;)
Thanks for the mini-review, now I’m even more excited to get my pack, haha.
Dont even get me started on BSTs.
“I have a Maverick and a DV888, would that get me your Summit or Avalanche?”
sigh
I was just watching the 1A Preliminarys and i couldn’t identify the throw that Harold Owens III was using. can anyone tell me what it was? would it be safe to assume that he MAY have been throwing the “Mystery Throw”?
probably the toohot. that would make the most sense.
If Harold wins worlds he’d probably want to use a tooHoT to do it.
it was silver
