Like a year or two ago I posted a method I discovered on how to tune a yoyo, Extreme Vibe Tuning Guide: Scraping Method - For Those Who Demand Smoothness - Yo-Yo Mods and Maintenance - YoYoExpert some are skeptical (which is understandable) because it involves altering the bearing seat manually and that has so much risk. I I will list the yoyos I have successfully/failed to tune with this method; sort of, since I often find better ways to it but the basic idea is the same, altering the yoyo itself (irreversible), just to show you that it does work. Word of notice, I have done this from quite some time and that tutorial I wrote is somewhat the basics, there are things that can’t be explained easily. Do not try unless you know how it works and fully understand the consequences, as it alters the yoyo permanently. A non destructive method would be simply use plumbing tape or changing axle/bearing, though in many cases they simply doesn’t work because it’s not the cause of the vibe.
Why am I doing this? It’s simply my, let’s say, different way to enjoy yoyoing; some just like playing it, some like collecting it, some like modding it. I enjoy buying good but vibey/wobbly yoyos (which are always cheap because of it), tune the vibe down and then I have a good yoyo for a broken price. Sometimes I do that just to please my perfectionist side, and sometimes I just enjoy seeing people’s reaction when they sell wobbly yoyos to me that I can eventually fix, or seeing my friend’s happy face when their yoyos suddenly plays better.
In no particular order, not mentioning yoyos I fixed without this method:
-Magicyoyo D8 success, from vibe to almost none
-Aoda Sunshine, from vibe to little vibe
-Yoyorecreation Diffusion 1st gen, from wobble to almost none
-Adegle Rhong To, from nearly unplayable to almost none
-Yoyoranger Mafia, from vibe to smooth (not mine, my friend asked me to do it)
-Shinwoo Zen (not sure which exactly), from vibe to little vibe (not mine)
-Yoyoapartment (not sure the name), from vibe to little vibe
-Magicyoyo N12, from vibe after dropping to little vibe/almost none (don’t really remember)
-Cheap $2 plastic yoyo, from vibe to less vibe (I was lazy since it’s not worth it)
-Yomega Glide, from little vibe to less vibe
-Yoyoapartment 1937, from very little vibe to less vibe
I think there are some more but I can’t remember at the moment. I cut a lot of my yoyo collections since last year, I know I missed some.
failed:
Godtricks Bomber, it started dead smooth then heavily vibey after a 5a drop, I absolutely can’t fix it. later I discovered the thread was starting to strip (supposedly from that 5a play, but it could also be from when I constantly disassembling it when tuning).
