YoYoRecreation Appreciation Thread

welp
Dreads play really light and bouncy.

It does impossible things cause it’s so large, but it can fit into small places cause it’s thin-ish for its size. There are tricks I can’t normally hit that I can with the Dread, but that could just be on me lol. In the past, I hated Dreadnoughts cause they’re too large for chopsticks/make them super awkward, but the blasted one I have doesn’t die when you touch it. It makes you supah good at chopsticks cause you get uber good technique. They’re definitely great for speed combos, but mostly just a fun YYR if you just like messing around. It’s one of the more soulful YYR, if that means anything. If you’re into speed combos and want an oversized, 44 Clash is where it’s at.

I’ve watched Darnell Hairston play with mine and it’s pretty much the yoyo for his 1A style. Smoothed out everything for him.

Heavy for its size? Nah it’s super light.

Yeah, the Dread is awesome, there are only two yyr yoyos that I don’t currently own I’ll definitely get into my collection, it’s the Dreadnought and the 1st run of 44Clash. And probably the Overdrive too xD

I answer myself … yes! tolerance problems.
I got the laser today and really do not understand how in the face of such precision coupling of rings of steel there will be a total inability to calculate the tolerance of the bearing housing!
the yo-yo was tightened so hard that I was actually afraid to break it to open it and remove the bearing with a bearing-tool took me almost five minutes!
the only solution to make it decent was this, take a little over a tenth of a millimeter from bearing housing…
now the bearing is removed by hand, the yoyo closes flawlessly and no vibration.

Sure that those who assembles them in the first place is a fool to tighten them so hard and then should return them to the lathing … because even in the worst factory of Bankok can do better !!!

Now THAT takes some chutzpah! Good for you!

I agree, there is absolutely no reason to make the bearing seats that tight.
It s a myth that tight bearing seats can help reduce vibe. Like, maybe ideally when you never unscrew the yoyo, but even in that case a loose bearing seat wouldnt make it any worse.
I have seen plenty of yoyos smooth without a tight bearing seat, my 3yo3 Al5 being one of them.

Don’t think i ever took my Laser apart but i don’t seem to remember any of my YYRs having overly tight bearing seats. Certainly not YYF tight.

I dont have a metal YYR, but triad and diffusion are both that tight and had to be chilled in the fridge before I can multitool them out.

I own 17 YYR, the bearing seats are normally accurate, not allowing manual removal but nothing too complex … the laser is absurd, I only say that when I opened it there was the filing, because bearing had rifled the seats… imagine if they had anodized … it would be impossible to mount the bearing.
But the craze tighten very strong cups during assembly is one thing I’ve noticed for a long time (about z-on, mr. butcher, reclash, etc.) … It’s very wrong, maybe assembler should remember that the axis is steel but the cups are made of aluminum … which is very much softer!

I’ve owned 7 or 8 YYR and none of them have ever had tight bearing seats including my laser

I don’t like to put on the lathe a yoyo that has no defects…
What can I tell You, my Laser will be born bad… :-\

I can sell you mine

Aren’t we still waiting on the Sputnik as well?? C’mon YYR!

Holy cow, go check YYR’s Instagram. New colors of Diffusion, Translucent greens and opaque black. New Draupnirs with new engraving for 44Clash. 44Clash edition Dazzlers as well. The Sleipnir is back with a gorgeous new geometric horse engraving. And also, they’ve announced there’ll be a pre-release of what I assume is a brand new yoyo, Invasion.

Edit: Nathan C beat me to it…

Looks like I’m getting another Sleipnir…

YESSSSSSS

Those Sleipnir, that purple Draupnir…!

Sigh, looks like it’s going to be an expensive year. Gets out wallet

I’m so glad they’re bringing back the Sleipnir. Fantastic yoyo.

I want dat runic font

seems like the new sleipnirs cup is modified
also the horse head logo resembles the number 2

I don’t think the horse head looks ENOUGH like a 2 for it to be intentional. Even if it IS a “Sleipnir 2” I think it would be coincidence. It’s a cool-looking piece, though!

Wonder what the Invasion is all about.
