Yeah during the last week
WHOOPEE!!!
if they want to hit the 45k mark, they need to add more stuff. Selling out everything that’s online now won’t reach the 45k mark. In addition, some more T-Shirts and stuff needs to be sold. Seeing the rate at that they are selling, I doubt that would make much of a difference. Maybe some more international shipping will help tip the scale, but I doubt it.
The 40k though, that will be reached, I’m sure. Only 7 more Titaniums need to be sold and the 40k mark has been reached.
On another note: today I saw a picture of OneDrop’s titanium yoyo. To me, it seems like a clever idea of YYF to make the yoyo available as a pre-order through a crowd funding site. That way, they grab a portion of the market ahead of the competition. I’m not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, I just think it’s clever.
In the gaming industry, there’s a movement to make everybody stop pre-ordering games because then publishers can publish crappy games without having to worry about bad reviews. I thought if this principle might apply here as well but the analogy doesn’t hold, really, as the majority of yoyos get sold without prior reviews anyway.
Still, all in all, it’s a well played thing that YYF tried here.
Is the Dream the first yo-yo design to potentially be made in 3 different materials (titanium, aluminum, plastic)? :-\
If so, we have to make history!
The Freehand was made in at least 3 different materials: plastic, aluminum and magnesium (were there more?). Granted, there were variations among the different iterations, but there would be with the Dream as well.
I think it took a much longer time for it to happen though. This will be all around the same time, and within the same general marketing project, which might be a first. Any others you can think of?
Yoyofactory Super g and Yoyofactory regen two versions I think and Yoyofactory Supernova Lite and Supernova and Space Cowboy trhree versions I think and Yoyofactory Protostar and Yoyofactory Rocktar and Yoyofactory One star I think thes stars are really three different materials metal derlin polycarbonate and I’m not getting the spelling of polycarbonit.
I think it’ll be the first time that multiple versions of the “same” yoyo (with design changes necessitated by material differences of course!) are announced and released at the “same” time (the plastic will come a little bit later… the mold would still have to be made, etc), though.
Yeah, as far as I know it’s the first time 3 versions are released around the same time.
That being said, I can think of a couple more:
Regen/Super G/7075 Super G can all currently be purchased somewhere, not necessarily YYE.
Also, the Chief/7075 Chief/Yeti could all be purchased in a similar time frame.
Both of those trios of course rely on counting 6061 and 7075 as separate materials. They’re both aluminum, yes, but they’re different enough where I’d say they count as separate. Also, the original release dates of each type don’t line up nearly as close to each other as the 3 Dreams will, but they can/could be purchased around the same time.
Side note, completely unrelated to trios…
I really hope the engravings on the Ti Dream are very minimal. I especially hope they don’t engrave “Made in China” on it, because that would really bug me, I really don’t care where it’s made so long as it’s not lasered on the yoyo.
I’m almost sure it will have “Made in China” on it since YYF has been very careful with CPSIA regulations.
Can’t quote on Tapatalk, but about the made in China…
How have they avoided this for other throws then? Off the top of my head, I know my Space Cowboy, Shutter, and Cypher don’t have it, and as far as I know they’re all made in China.
Maybe it has to do with complete production? Perhaps the ones I listed were anodized/engraved here, so they get a pass?
But if they put MIC on it then people will think that YYF makes stuff in China!
LOL.
Ah. I have one of the 7 gold Space Cowboys from the holiday collector’s mystery pack, and mine doesn’t have it, so I wasn’t sure. My Cypher and Shutter from that pack don’t have it either, neither do the Horizon and WYYC Cypher I have. So there must be some sort of loophole that they use in certain cases… Maybe when they have them engraved/anodized in the US?
Regardless, it’s not a huge deal to me if the text is small and not very noticeable. I don’t care that it’s machined in China, I’d just rather not have extra engraving that doesn’t add to the aesthetics of the throw, especially if they’re not necessary through some loophole.
Where engravings are concerned, I knew the yo-yo would be made in China before I bought into it (it was mentioned up front), so I don’t mind it being on the yo-yo. When I see that on the yo-yo, I consider it a small detail that my eyes just don’t seem to focus on much anyway. I tend to pick up on the overall graphic design and not pay as much attention to the much smaller text detail. I buy my yo-yos made everywhere, U.S.A., Canada, Italy, Japan, and China too.
But, I realize for some people, it’s a matter of preference and some people have more attention to detail in that way. I guess it doesn’t hurt to mention it in the thread, because you never know who is watching.
Cant you like lightly scratch it out? With some steel wool, I’ve taken some ano text away
Glad it’s not just me … I agree that YYF was clear in disclosing that the Ti Dream would be machined in China, so when I decided to buy-in, it was with full knowledge of this. But I still get really turned off when I see ‘Made in China’ permanently marked on a product I buy from a US company.
I recently bought a Yoyo Empire RainFly (a Chinese company, if I’m not mistaken), and while that has no MIC markings on it, I would have no problem whatsoever if it did. But if this YYF Ti Dream is marked MIC, I must admit I will be disappointed.
I think it’s something like this. Not sure exactly how much production needs to take place out of China for no required marking.
Sorry to start that debate, it wasn’t meant in a negative light at all.
I really don’t mind at all where it’s machined. I love my YYF stuff that’s made in China. It’s just that I don’t care to see it engraved on the yoyo, especially when I have other ones that aren’t engraved with it. I’m a fan of artistic engravings, but the country of origin does nothing for me. That’s info that should be reserved for the box, IMO.
I’d feel the same way about OD throws if they engraved some with “Made in the USA”, but didn’t engrave others. I’d have the hope that they’d keep it off of throws that I’m interested in. Being made in China isn’t the issue, it’s just that I’d prefer not to have it engraved on the yoyo; not at all that I want to hide the fact that it’s made in China or anything.
That’s all.
Edit:
From the Facebook page, I guess they have to put some code on it to signify it’s made in China. Sounds like Ben is aware people don’t want it glaringly obvious like the Ricochet though, so I’m guessing he’ll try to make it as insignificant as possible.
Some people have suggested that the code be engraved in the bearing area or under the response pads… I really like that idea, would be awesome if they could do that!
Only 15 of these left to be sold. Engraving or not, my guess is that they will sell out completely with 8 days left. And, we’re very close to 40k, with a week left to get to 45k. I smell success.
And, if anyone has played that VKss from the Trust Ben pack, isn’t it amazing? :o
