Yoyo Competiton...

Hi I’m 15 from Southern California and was wondering what tricks are required for a competition and what are the rules…I was an advanced player 4-5 years ago and stopped for that amount of time and started again recently but the problem is I lost my touch…and forgot my tricks…I basically just want to know what I should practice/learn to be able to compete in a competition…thanks

I’m confused. If you were an advanced player 4-5 years ago, you should’ve known at least the very basics of how the scoring system works, or at least know that there is no “required” tricks at all, unless you have never competed in the first place. Most today’s competitions are freestyle, and it has been like this since… quite some time really.
Read up this year’s World’s rule to get in the loop http://tokyo15.com/en/contest-divisions/freestyle-rule/

Rules and events can vary by contest but are usually similar. Check this site for an example. http://iyyf.org/

By advanced, perhaps he could mean he was in the advanced section of the Yoyoexpert tutorials.

To the OP:
Read the links above for a complete explanation of contests.
Here is a quick overview of competing:

There are two types of divisions at contests: trick ladder style and freestyle.
trick ladder style is where you do tricks from a list that the contest provides; if you make a trick you’ll get points/stay in the contest; if you miss a trick you won’t get points/will get eliminated.
That’s the basic idea, the exact tricks and rules vary from contest to contest.

With freestyle, competitors do two (or three for big contests) minutes of whatever tricks they want with music of their choice. The judges score them and a winner is chosen based on the judges score.

Freestyle divisions often have an amateur and pro version, so you don’t have to compete against the likes of Andrew Maider or Gentry Stein.

That’s all
