OP1 complete off the mill and a fine glass bead blast. Still need to clean up the engraving a little, but the photos make it look worse than it is.
@couch
Man this looks awesome! I’m jealous that you have access to a lathe.
Finished this one up late last night and have been playing with it all day today. Overall came out nice. May move some of the final machining from my mill to my lathe to help with concentricity but otherwise, very happy.
@couch
Do you have your own lathe and mill or do you get access through work or something?
I have my own shop and equipment.
That’s awesome!
Makes it a lot easier to mess with stuff like this for sure. I ran my shop full time for years and go back and forth between this and full time work at other shops. My primary machine is a 2021 Haas VF-2YT CNC Mill. Not ideal for making yo-yos, but it works well. Cycle time is longer than if I made them on a lathe so I dug out my little Sherline CNC lathe and got it all cleaned up recently. Going to move some of the finish turning to the Sherline so I can mill the critical details in blanks on the mill, and rough the shapes fast then skim cut the cup and catch zone for concentricity all locating off the bearing seat. This is the same lathe I’m modifying my bearings with.
That looks fantastic. Would love to see a few clips of the process or just the lathe work on the metal. I dig watching stuff get made.
finished model:
Diameter: 53.5 mm
width: 51mm
weight: 60.2 g

@Thrower4aCK
I believe that the SS used is usually 303 SS.
If you like this design I would happily sell you one, but I don’t have the money right now. if anyone would like to help me out it would be greatly appreciated. not looking to turn a profit just wanna see this dream of mine come true.
@Thrower4aCK
Sorry man I don’t have the money either. I have wanted to produce my own metal yoyos for ages but I don’t have the money. Such is life. I wish you luck on your journey to getting them made.
I need. Large light yoyos are my crack
Woah 60mm on a metal! Curious can you tell me what the MMOI is?
~16800 per half.
Man, I fell off reading this thread. I can’t believe I missed this. This is so cool!
Mark, could you reveal what the MOI of the Exia is?
