And the rest? Gap, bearing?

It is a D bearing, correct?

D bearing, 8mm axl, not sure of the gap measurement

The gap measurement is a very important spec. That’s one of the main things I wanted to know.

Apart from the workhorse any other favourites?

Sorry, can’t help. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

It’s hard to measure accurately since the walls flare out just past the response pads, but I’m getting ~3.05mm with the stock bearing (concave 685ZZ). I have one of mine set up with an MR115 bearing resulting in a gap of ~2.05mm.

Other favorite all metal responsives per the discussion? Or favorite modern responsives in general?

3.05 is a fairly wide gap, but is definitely right for a D bearing responsive.

There was some intention on this. The default gap is wide gearing a bit more toward a nearly simi responsive play style and more string tricks with a 5mm lubed d bearing (recessed) but still coming back to the hand however for those interested in more response either can use , grease or a 4mm bearing swap. Along with changing weight default 3g with included weight rings but can go up to 9g with the right set of weight rings if desired and can also mess with 3d printed caps for a diy approach to adding a finger spin dimple or spikes or just even more weight for whatever reason.

The workhorse being a yoyo that draws influence from the silverbullet in adjustability in weight and gap.

You can also run the 5mm bearing dry with shims and go full unresponsive if desired

Well its a good setup for semi-responsive for sure. :+1:

I need to play with my workhorse more. I was lucky and found a space wagon version on a BST listing a couple months ago. Around the same time I also got weekender and then a couple weeks later the Plasm came out and that changed everything. I haven’t hardly played with anything else since. Plasm hands down is my favorite modern responsive yoyo. My skills aren’t great but it just feels so right, from the shape to the weight to the amount of responsiveness it’s just so good. I have a purple and lazer fade but I’d like to track down a coke bottle green one. Definitely plan on buying a couple more on the next release.

MR85 really is my favorite for straight 0A.

Workhorse is great for being able to do 0A and 1A, it’s a Workhorse for sure. Not better at 0A than the MR85 imo, but the ability to do both so well is why it shines imo

Would love to hear your thought in general but also on the ones you mentioned as I’ve been eyeing a few of them up.

Great info, thanks for sharing. As a late comer it’s nice to see how much thought went into it.

My workhorse goes on and off between seeing daily carry and not seeing play for a while. At home i never really play it, cause ive got my plasm for 0a right there, and my theodore and firecracker for responsive 1a.
Workhorse really shines at being able to do a bit of everything responsive, but that ends up being it sitting on the shelf while i carry an unresponsive, and not seeing any play at home

I keep coming back to my Space Wagon Workhorse. I’ve been EDC’ing the Weekender for the FS cups. It’s just enough wider as well that it’s “safe” for me. The Plasm is also awesome. I love that it’s plastic not metal if I want to go that way.

It’s the fidget spin aspect that keeps my workhorse shelved. I also have to constantly lube the 5mm. That said, I do really love it - and want to carry it. I pulled out Andy’s FS caps again - when I first used them I liked the spin - but felt they made it very heavy (54g without and 63g with). But I’ve swapped in a cleaned 4mm Amazon D and slapped the caps back on. I’m going to show it some love and see how it goes. My 0A game sucks - a basic stall is all I get - but I want to learn 0A. I do like that it’s a great toss and catch and can dabble in 1A.

@Pun1sh3R - how different is the Operator V2 compared to the V1? Not that I’ve played either - just curious. FOMO says I should jump in on the pre-buy but I’m not a good enough player to give any feedback of value - and my wallet says no - so still debating.

To help with this, and any others who might be sitting on the fence.
Being part of the proto v1 run, I’m excited to see the v2 adjustments. As is, it’s about one of the best performing organics I’ve ever played with, even after the honeymoon phase. From my understanding, the changes are going to be very minor. Feedback from me was pretty much the following:

“”
Honestly, I wouldn’t change much, if anything, about the Operator at this point. I absolutely love everything about this yo-yo. The design has that bubbly, comfortable rounded organic feel that I wouldn’t want to mess with. It’s already perfect from a hand-feel.

The grind finish? Phenomenal! It’s got a palm grind capability that screams killer finish, and thumb grinds are super smooth and easy.

As for the response, it’s perfect. Tight binds, no slipping, exactly what you want in a yoyo. The matador spikes are hands down the best I’ve ever used, I can’t stop matador spinning it and I absolutely love it. Pull starts and matador spins legitimately feel like cheating, haha, it’s great.

Overall, it reminds me a bit of the Bathysphere, a high performing organic that’s just nice and well rounded (pun not intended), which I already love, but the Operator edges it out in my book because it is a little less centerweight feeling for me. It does tilt a little from time to time, but honestly, it helps me focus on correcting bad habits. That’s not a dealbreaker at all.

If we shipped this yoyo as-is today, I’d be happy. The shape, feel, grind, weight, spike, and response are nearly perfect as they stand, which is incredible for a first proto. It has something about it that makes it special in this realm, like the Bathysphere, and Butterball.

My only tiny nitpick is the occasional tilt, but that’s probably more on me than the yoyo. If there is a way to add just a smidge more rim weight without any worry of changing everything else I’m playing right now, that’s cool, if not, I’m on board with team ship it!
“”

From there (and other feedback), we seemed to come to that agreement to still overall keep that old-school kind of feel, but modernize just a tad further, and adjust the wall ever so slightly, and with a little more rim-weight, to push it slightly more modern.

Just a little more forgiving, and with great modern play, but still keeping that old-school feel and mentality of the YYBC that makes things familiar and nostalgic.

Yo! Is it too late!? I forgot about this. I definitely want in!!!

This is a common misconception. IMO, It’s actually extremely helpful to have players of ALL skill levels try and give input on any design.

When I joined the design team for the workhorse, I felt like an imposter. I “wasn’t good enough” to be giving input, let alone “help” design a yoyo. But that experience showed me that it’s not all about skill level.

The idea is we want EVERYONE to buy this yoyo. If we only get input from the best players, you’re going to end up with a much different yoyo.

Plus, this is what’s great about YYBC. It’s open to anyone and everyone, regardless of skill level, age, etc.

I’ve been eyeing the Firecracker for response 1A play. Are you using a flat c or narrow c in your setup? What’s your overall thoughts and is there anything other throw you’d compare it to?
