To add to @Pun1sh3R s comment. If you stalk the BST or even create a BST post saying you are looking for a Workhorse, you’re likely to find one. Someone has already gotten one this way.
Thanks for all the discussion. I’ll definitely look into the BST page and see if anything comes up. I have a Weekender on order so maybe they will be enough for now along with the Origen I recently got. I fully understand the hesitation and hold no hard feelings. As far as officially joining the Boomer club, what’s the process? How to I join?
One has but to ask.
It’s convenient because you have to donate a Weekender to another member of the group to get in.
…Just kidding, you pretty much already completed the steps, just gotta say “I would like to join.” Also “I promise I won’t be a jerk,” if you want bonus points.
Wait…I could have gotten BONUS points!?
The Weekender will indeed give you a different play experience than the Origen.
I’m pretty sure this was a one time offer available only for the next 10 minutes.
I would like to join the Boomer club. Responsive play is what I prefer and I’ll be 40 this year so I definitely remember the 90s boom and seeing demos in elementary school and being wowed as a kid.
I really like the Origen. It plays how I was hoping my 3 in 1 was gonna play when I bought it a decade ago. Decent sleep time but very predictable response. I can do old school 1A tricks but also loop (as best as I can loop anyway). It stalls great, now I need to learn to kick flip. I’d also like to learn how to do regens and more looping style tricks. I assume it’s the combo of the small bearing, light weight and larger response pads that make it feel like it does.
The Weekender seems like it fits a similar bill especially if it’s really greased up but I guess I’ll find out. I like Doc Pop’s content so I wanted to support what he’s doing. I also have an art background so I appreciate his non yoyo content too. I also picked up a Bolt because why not I definitely like collecting as much as I like throwing. Yoyos are also much cheaper than pinball machines which is my other main hobby.
on the subject of pif’s ive had the dead orse for WAY too long. sorry folks!
First to post they want to try it will get to play it for the next month with the understanding that after the time is up they will post a similar message and cover the shipping to move it to the next person. Participants are required to be in the contiguous United States to keep shipping fair and even and feedback/rep is required.
Just wait until the collector bug hits you.
I want pinball machines to be my other hobby. They’re just too expensive!
I had two machines that a family member bought with the intention of fixing them up. They never did and moved out of country so I got them. I kept them for like 2 years wanting to fix them up too. Never got around to it. Ended up begging someone else to take them off my hands and gave them away.
The moral of my story is I guess be prepared to have a really big thing take up a large portion of your living space and be prepared to work hard to fix it including chasing around hard to find parts.
It could be fun but I found the idea of it was a lot more appealing to me than the reality. I still sometimes wish I had one even now even after that lesson.
I had a 6-player X-Men cab in my basement for a few years. Eventually, we stopped using it, and I sold it to a barcade in PA that gave it a beautiful facelift.
This happens to a lot of players. I enjoy working on games as much as I enjoy playing them. I currently own 8 games (7 work, one is a slow moving project). I have owned around 20 over the past 7 years. I used to buy older non working games, restore them, play them for a while and then sell them. I now own a good mix of older and new games, play in a league and host tournaments at my house with my friends often. It’s a fun hobby but games are expensive. I’m happy with my current collection though so it probably won’t change for a while.
Yoyos are much cheaper and take up far less space but tend to be a more solo activity. I enjoy both though and my wife is cool with both hobbies so that’s a bonus.
I will get you added once I can get to a computer and do the Admin work.
My Regen game escalated tremendously by missing kick flips. I still miss a lot of Kick Flips…
The Origen is a very good throw. I have had a few and I keep giving them to friends because they are so consistent and good.
@aorear85 Admin has been taken care of. Welcome to the Club.
We also have a Discord server. Link is in the First Post, along with your name being added to the Member List.
Thanks so much! You guys are awesome super excited about being in the club.
My wife and I were cleaning our basement storage room this morning and I found the Butterfly XT that got me started back 2014. I forgot I had flip the caps over and added stickers. This afternoon I loaded it up with some Super Lube grease and replaced the string. Plays pretty great. Been practicing stalls to a regen after dismounting the stall. It’s such a light throw it plays really well slowed down. It’s not nearly as balanced/smooth as the origin but this thing still rips. Thinking about grabbing a Hello Kitty one as my grab and go beater to carry with me.
Cool pics, what a find! The XT’s are surprisingly pretty good for the price. I still pick mine up occasionally, and the fact that you can walk into most big chain stores and just find them on the shelf has saved me a couple of times, or helped make it easy to get into the hands of someone hoping to learn. It’s a classic and still floating around for a reason!
