Suggesting p.6, OT String be expanded to “Original Throw String”. Turns up better web search results.
Each set up a tad different. The Proto with a 4mm dry bearing and Polyesque string. The Founders edition with de-shielded 5mm bearing a touch of moly grease and a spattering of oil with Executive Class Strings, and The beautiful Cherry Bomb has the same blend in the bearing only with thick Prestige strings. For the bearing treatment I dab a Qtip in the black moly grease and dab it in to a spot or 2 on one side of the bearing, I then put a BB sized drop of oil right on the grease. Assemble and throw several times letting it spin out a fair bit. This wets the grease and spreads it around really well. This causes the bearing to have incredible response that lasts a long time but it also allows it to spin faster like a dry bearing, even having a similar sound. I’m loving it with the 5mm greased bearings. The 4mm bearing is very responsive. Too much so for string tricks with the thicker strings I normally use. You can’t get the yo-yo to sit in a mount without it instantly responding. But for playing catch and loops and likely stalls as well, the 4mm is a dream. I will eventually try MYY string on it as I have a ton to see if thinner string will allow some string play. Anyways, that’s my story, I am loving all 3 of them.
Similar setup for me, cherry bomb with a greased up 4mm bearing and a thick cotton-poly blend for 0A stalls, and space wagon set up with the 5mm bearing and just a tiny bit of thin lube with a Solutions Serum string for string tricks.
I ended up making a thicker Vapor string for my Workhorse, which helped the response. I need to buy some silicon grease still.
These are fire! My concerns are 2 fold:
- Can I print smooth enough to be an effective spinner?
- I’d be covering up the dope Space Wagon - but man - where did that purple filament come from because wow that looks awesome!
But Fidget pulls are why I’ve considered going back to the Weekender as my EDC even though I love the workhorse.
Hmmm…
I print these with thin layer lines, 0.08 mm usually but 0.01 does spin well too. You gotta tune well to minimize seams lines.
The purple is Gloop! Purple from Proto-Pasta.
That purple would look fire with the Founder’s Edition!
Wood filament caps are lighter at about 7 grams. I hit these ones with some beeswax lemon butcher block wax for extra smoothness.
So cool
Last chance for the Workhorse V1 PIF! If there aren’t any takers by tonight, I’ll plan on boxing it up and sending it home. If anyone does want to try this out, I’ll toss in a few 3D printed yoyos, CW’s, and other fun stuff too. Let me know!
That’s WILD. Now I need to buy a 3d printer.
If it helps entice anyone, I’ll print a set or two of @AudreySickburn pull start caps and add them to the Workhorse V1 PIF…
@RealGambit I apologize for the Delay. Welcome to the Club. You have been added to the Members list in the first post.
Printed a few of these to add to the V1 prototype before sending it home, but it looks like that one is 1.0 mm larger ID on the cups than the current design iteration. Scaled (on x-y plane only) and re-printing now. They fit my cherry bomb perfectly.
That is where some of the redesign took place. Mr. Jake took some Center and Mid mass and transferred it to those edges.
Looking at the two side by side, the changes were very subtle, but make a big impact on play.
Come get your 5a on and possibly win some Throw-Yo swag:
