You NEED One Of These…a Shutter!

If you don’t have a Shutter wide-angle…get one they are the BEST!

I just got one yesterday . I agree, it’s pretty darn good, and I can see why it gets so many positive reviews. I have an original, too, but I think the extra width and less weight were huge improvements.

You don’t have to stop at the Wide Angle. The Shutter family tree is solid.

One Drop Deep State. The only yoyo I can do practically everything I can on an unresponsive but with the satisfaction of a tug response. It is soooo satisfying. It bridges the gap from my beginnings to my unresponsive days. It’s like the best of both worlds. The Deep State has made me more excited about throwing than I have been in a long time.

That’s great Chris! Be on the lookout for a DeeperState and an RBC if you’re digging the DS.

Im confused, isn’t this a Shutter appreciation thread?

As for the Shutter, it seems that there is a bit of a disconnect. It might be one of the highest selling yoyos of recent years, but a lot of people “in the community” crap on it a lot as generic and boring. I personally thought the same way at first, but then I got a bit more skilled and am really amazed at how well rounded of a performer it is. And in all of the iterations I have. The WA is fast and light (albeit a little unstable), the Shutter OG is a well rounded jack of all trades yoyo, and the Butter is more of the same feel but with more spintime and smoothness. Such a wonderful lineup. People dismiss them for the boutique of the week, but the Shutter is going to have it’s place in yoyo lore (if it hasn’t already). I agree that everyone who enjoys throwing unresponsive yoyos should at least try, if not own one.

Ultimate showdown Poll time:

  • Shutter
  • Butter
  • Wutter (Wide Angle Shutter)
  • Jutter (JDS Shutter)
  • Utter (anything else )

I’ve got a JDS and a Wangle. The Wangle is insanely easy to do fingerspins and related tricks on, but for my tastes it’s too wide for everything else. The JDS seems to be more of an all-rounder, better blast finish than the Wangle and doesn’t feel too wide when I’m practicing string tricks. And still good at fingerspins, although not stupid-good like the Wangle.

Both are excellent yoyos though.

I think I get along so well with the Deep State is because of the full size bearing. If it was a narrow I doubt I’d feel the same.

The OP should put Shutter in the title. It seems vague. Sorry.

Deeper state is a full size bearing. I even use a greased concave and it’s very responsive. RBC isn’t snaggy even with the small bearing. You’ll like em.

Since I’ve only tried the shutter…my vote would be completely useless.

Shutter ? Never heard of it. Is it a new yo-yo ? Who is it made by ?

Scudder. Laura Scudder’s yoyo and peanut butter.

You know, for all this talk of the Shutter being to generic, I often think it’s not generic ENOUGH.

When I want a “jack of all trades” monometal, I usually reach for a much more minimalist shape. Like the yyf cypher or the Ashigaru.

But the Shutter has a funny little secondary inner ring, which gives it an unusual balance of mid weight, and an uncommon H/rounded/almost undercut shape.

If a different small yoyo company had made a yo-yo with those characteristics, I highly doubt anyone would call it generic.
