Do you have any throws that really mean a lot and remind you of the past?
I have an Akita I remember debating about purchasing in the car line to get my kids. It was my first “really” nice throw and just reminds me of that winter and the awe I had when I got it.
Always reminds me of that moment when I got it. And I wondered if anyone else has emotional attachment to any of their throws?
my edge 2022. i bought an edge ultimatum from yoyofactory, but the order got lost in their office for 2 months, before they found it and learned that they’d already sold out. they then offered to exchange it for an edge 2022, to which i happily obliged. while i don’t throw it often, it’s a reminder of how great this community is
OG 28s peak for me. Got it back in 2009 - traded an A grade gold nugget peak and a fools gold gold nugget peak for it. I was 15 at the time and I was PUMPED - I felt like I won the lottery. Fast forward to 2011 I decided that I no longer liked yo-yos, so I traded it away. I remember I traded it for a 28s marmot, spring edition bassalope, 28s avalanche, and a team edition Sasquatch - not a terrible trade at the time tbh. I then sold those for next to nothing. I was 17 and just wanted money. But since then I have absolutely regretted trading it away. I would’ve been okay with selling my collection for next to nothing if I still held onto this one. Hindsight is always 20/20!
This is my first ever yoyo. My parents put in my stocking one Christmas and I got hooked. I learned all the basic looping tricks on it and some basic string tricks like Rock the Baby and Trapeze. Then I got a Throw Monkey and then a million more yoyos since. My parents had no idea a $3 yoyo would be so financially devastating lmao.
For me are: Yoyofactory - Velocity (my first yoyo ever), Yoyojam - X-convict, ILYY - Wasabi, Yoyofactory - 888.
Those are all the yoyos that I tried and some I had at the beginning of my “career” when the world of yoyoing was so new to me and so weird, had the best time learning all the beginner and intermediate tricks on the Velocity, first time I closed Jade whip I had all my friends screaming as I was 2 hours trying it without stop, I got borrowed the Wasabi and the 888 that at the time seemed the peak of performance yoyos and when I tried I remember fall in love with the feeling, also going around my island with my friend Gianluca which was a more experienced player than me and every day see which trick he learnt and he procede to teach me even if it wasn’t at my level, with me being like “daaaaamn this looks so good”.
A few throws for me, not all of which are necessarily good memories.
YYF Superstar in blue/purple acid wash. This was my first all metal yo-yo and I would contend still one of the prettiest colour ways on a yo-yo I own. It’s covered in lots of love marks now and doesn’t get too much playtime but it’ll always hold a special place for me.
My Ti-Walker. I spent all year as a kid saving up my pocket money doing chores so when this dropped shortly before Christmas I stayed up past midnight for the release (the first of a few times I’ve waited to catch a drop) so I could nab it. Several years later I lost the axle and, not knowing it was a pretty stock part, I left the two halves to sit on a shelf, sad I couldn’t play my favourite throw. A couple years on from that I found out I could just use a stock axle and it’s been a regular in the rotation since.
Luftverk Exos. Another ti which I stayed up to catch the release. This time I was in America visiting family, in particular one relative who was sick. The drop happened a couple days into my trip and the next day I woke up with COVID (almost definitely from the plane ride over). So I had to spend a week in the family camper van in quarantine feeling awful and unable to see my family. The Exos has since become one of if not my favourite yo-yo but that week will always make me sad thinking back on it.
For me it’s my Proto Gung-fu. Technically named a “fast-fu”. 1 of 3 protos each with a different splatter pattern. But man, so many memories with this yoyo. My first freestyle in a contest, worlds 5a prelim, was with this yoyo. I have probably close to an hour of footage with this gung fu on my old youtube channel. First yoyo i ever had sent to me from a sponsor too. I love this thing. Today, it has some bearing seat damage (delrin) but it still plays, just vibes a bit more than it used to.
Number one: My Ti Vayder was with me during a very difficult time. It’s with me now for an even more difficult time. It’s my go to. It’s always on me. I’ve seen a lot of movies, shows, travel with it. I’ve had it on me for good news, lots of bad news. It’s been through a lot with me and it’ll never go anywhere. Now a days I also rotate my mecha Bape and my Dink, but the Vayder will always be my comfort throw.
Number two is the Dells Big D Trickster. It was my grandfathers. I played with it as a kid and never really understood it, just found it fun to go up and down. As an adult, I showed my grandfather my collection and tricks. He ran to the back and grabbed the trickster, threw a sleeper and then rocked the baby. He then handed it to me. If I lost every other yo-yo, I’d still be devastated. But I DAMN well better still have the trickster. All my sentimental value is poured into that hunk of plastic.
I had a first run General yo 5 star. My pride and joy.
My gramps was passing away and it had been years since I had seen him. A fellow forum member bought it from me and it gave me the cash to see him before he passed. That visit can’t be replaced, and so I am so grateful for that forum member and that yoyo.

This is probably my most prized possession in my yoyo collection as this was my VERY first yoyo I ever owned.
I was a young little kid in Hawaii, August of 1998. I was with my family at Ala Moana center and we came across a yoyo demonstration by the legends known as “Team High Performance”. It was the first time I had ever seen yoyo tricks beyond the basic throw and sleeper stuff that my dad had shown me, and I was immediately excited and wanted to do the same tricks they were doing.
I begged my dad for a yoyo from the store nearby and he made a deal with me. The deal was that if he got me a yoyo, then I had to learn how to do all the same tricks that the THP guys were doing. I viamently agreed and ended up with that Hyper Russel, and a trick book.
I’m happy to say that while I didn’t immediately learn every trick the THP guys could do, I can do all those tricks and then some today, so I believe I loved up to the promise.
